The guard is only a boy, not much older than I am, but his hands are impersonal, practiced. He walks me by the neck through the lines of tents, making sure everyone who sees knows the direction I am headed. The camp is different than yesterday, and the day before; there is no order at the fires, no queue at the mess, only the undertow of bodies moving toward the pit.
