It was the one-year anniversary of the wedding of Lucan Ashborn the emperor, supreme Alpha of Lycaria, and Duke Dreadmoor precious daughter, Selene Dreadmoor. The capital had been in a festive mood for the past week celebrating the imperial marriage and there was a celebratory banquet held at Highmoon, the capital’s palace. The people were perplexed by the unexpectedly proper display of various celebrations and banquets. There wasn’t a single person in the empire who didn’t know that the Supreme Alpha strongly disliked the Luna. In fact, he didn’t simply dislike her. He loathed her.Everyone had expected the Supreme Alpha to completely ignore the anniversary, but once they witnessed the grand celebrations, a hopeful doubt arose in them. But at the palace banquet held on the day of the anniversary, they realized their hopeful doubt was in vain. There wasn’t a single word exchanged between the Supreme Alpha and Luna, despite the banquet having been arranged to celebrate their marriage a

Selene Dreadmoor was the beloved, precious daughter of Duke Dreadmoor, who was said to be more powerful than the king. There was a rumor that, as she was born frail, the duke had had been carrying his daughter everywhere ever since she was young so that she didn’t have to walk. Another rumor said that he had assigned her numerous servants so that she never had to lift a finger. But the most believable one was that he did that because he knew his daughter was without a wolf, which would have been an issue seeing as she was supreme Luna of the kingdom, but her father had moved heavens to put her there. In any case, Selene Dreadmoor was Duke Dreadmoor treasured only child. Wolf or no wolf. The duke never let her out of the house once because he cherished her so much. And this was precisely why the king of Lycaria, Lucan Ashborn, despised Selene Dreadmoor so much.“Sel…” the duke murmured.“It’s all right, Father. Don’t worry.”On the day of the wedding, Lucan yawned as he stood back and

The first thing he did upon barging into the room was demand that she speaks.“I beg your pardon…?” Selene asked. She was sitting on the bed in her robe, her long golden hair undone. So, tell me what it is that you wish to say.”“Oh… Your Majesty, it’s just—”“Do you realize how I feel about your family?”His question cut her off, not allowing her to finish her sentence. Lucan met her eyes and gazed back, waiting patiently for her response.“I do.” Selene’s reply finally trickled past her lips. Her voice was lowerthan expected.Lucan found her knowing answer ridiculous and scoffed despite himself.“You do? So, you know that I despise the Dreadmoor’s and would get rid of everyone in the empire with t

The two didn’t eat dinner together that often. And when they did it was usually silent or the Alpha vexed for being in front of a demon’s spawn. But once, Selene had been the first to speak during their usual silence-filled meal. It had been about four months since their wedding.“Your Majesty, might I suggest that you sleep in my bed chamber tonight?” Selene asked in a nonchalant tone, as if she was only offering for the sake of asking.“Why should I do that, my queen?”“I thought it might be good to do so at least once.” It was an ambiguous and boring reason.“Why? Is your father urging you?” Lucan asked with the usual mocking expression he wore whenever he spoke with the queen.Lucan was well aware that the duke had begun going in and out of the queen’s chambers more often recently. The queen spent a long moment cutting up her food, then finally answered, “Father is only worrying for his daughter. He doesn’t want me to be lonely”“I’m sure you know better than anyone, my queen, tha
