I’m using the term smoldering to describe Ryan Gosling in Drive. That was so much emotion in so little dialogue. I can also use the term to describe the work of Zendaya, particularly her role in Euphoria. Even Tom Hiddleston’s Loki has a smirk on his face that could power a small town. Most importantly, there is something so fascinating about actors who are able to express so much emotion and get across so much to the audience through look. I guess that’s why the casting directors in Hollywood are so good at what they do.

Hollywood heartthrobs like Timothée Chalamet have gained a army of fans who lose their minds whenever he appears on screen in films such as Call Me by Your Name or Dune, thanks to his endearing combination of fragile features and intense vulnerabilities. On the other end of the spectrum is Mads Mikkelsen, who haunts the screen with his piercing and even chilling stare in TV series such as Hannibal. We can’t forget the iconic Lara Croft from the early ’00s blockbusters, played by the incomparable Angelina Jolie. These actors possess an inexplicable “it” quality – perhaps even only reflected in their singular gaze.

This list of some of the most glacially-meltingly handsome actors ever could go on forever! First up, there’s Idris Elba in ‘Luther’. His intense stare is really a character in his own right. Next up is Michael B. Jordan. His charisma in Creed and Black Panther has fans everywhere dreaming of him.

You can’t forget the rugged, charming Henry Cavill playing Geralt in The Witcher. Even a young Marlon Brando in ‘A Streetcar Named Desire’ had that iconic, smoldering look that so many actors since have tried to achieve, but weren’t quite as great as he was. He just had that kind of natural, magnetic, soul-searching stare.

There are so many classic blue eyes on film - Paul Newman in Cool Hand Luke inspires poem after poem of mine. As for newer picks, there's Oscar Isaac all charm and danger in Moon Knight, and the enchanting expressions of Florence Pugh whether she's being fierce or sweet. It's really amazing how one look can shoot a scene from very good to unforgettable. The actors I've chosen really bring so much more to their roles than just acting. They ignite the screen.

There are some actors who seem to exude warmth on screen. Pedro Pascal seems to carry himself with an air of effortless cool and even slyness, in both The Last of Us and Narcos. Jason Momoa is another example, all wild-haired and untamed in Aquaman. And then there’s the regal, and piercing gaze of Regé-Jean Page in Bridgerton, which I have found myself going back to over and over again. And then there’s Keanu Reeves in John Wick, all quiet and smoldering, proving that you don’t have to be loud to bring smoldering to a scene.
