What Are The Best Harry Potter Smut Fanfictions?

If you’re looking for something with substance, Breath Mints / Battle Scars by OnyxandElm is a great read for the toxic but electrifying relationship between Draco and Hermione. It’s written incredibly well with so much tension between the two characters, and all of their intimacy scenes really reveal a lot about their flaws and their growth. I read this all in one sitting during my late night AO3 binge. Another story by OlivieBlake, Clean, is also really good. It’s a post-war Draco/Hermione story set in a rehab of sorts, and there’s so much emotional baggage between the two characters that it really makes their physical interactions even better.

Another really good Dramione story set in the war years is 'The Fallout' by everythursday. The smut in this story serves the plot and the story is all together really gritty and good. Everythursday does a really great job of combining desperation with desire in the story and it makes for some really good reading. On the other hand of the spectrum for Dramione stories is 'Love and Other Historical Accidents' by PacificRimbaud. This is a really fun time-travel story that is also sweet and has some good smut in it. It's a really fun read and it's a good way to look at an alternate universe in which the story takes place without it feeling too "OTP centric" (i.e. not like Rowling wrote it with them in mind). It also feels like you've found another hidden chapter in the Harry Potter universe.

Just reading through ‘Harry Potter’ fanfiction that includes mature themes can be a really wild ride. There is this one piece of Hermione/Sirius time travel that was so so good for exploring really intense emotional and physical experiences. It was so balanced in terms of story and smut and really most ‘Harry Potter’ fanfiction falls into one category or the other but not this. ‘All You Want’ by SenLinYu is another piece that I found really enjoyable – it is a very Dramione piece and very very steamy but also very very tender and it feels so real in terms of character and the world that you have created – just like J.K. Rowling created the world of ‘Harry Potter’ with the gloves off so to speak.

I recently read “Manacled” by the same author as well. It was another intense war time piece that handled the trauma left on the characters in a very haunting and erotic way. It was certainly not easy to read but had such an incredible payoff in the end. This is why I adore fanfiction. It is able to do things that the actual canon could never. I highly recommend using AO3’s filters and checking out stories with tags like “slow burn” or “angst with a happy ending” to see what kinds of stories you’d like to read. Fandom is amazing because it allows for the reimagining of characters in completely new and often very intense ways while still being utterly familiar.

A friend once recommended me to read ‘The Auction’ by LovesBitca8 (a Voldemort-wins AU where Hermione is sold to Draco). It was brutal and beautiful, especially the smut, which felt like rebellion. The power dynamics were reallyunsettling and also reallymagnetic. On the opposite side of the spectrum, ‘Draco Malfoy and the Mortifying Ordeal of Being in Love’ by isthisselfcare is a reallygoodrom-com that follows a slow-burn. The banter between the two main characters is reallygoodand ignites into some reallygoodfireworks. The whole story is also reallyfunny, making the smut even sweeter. There’s also that really rare Neville/Hermione story ‘The Secret’s in the Telling’ by skyemomo, which is unexpected tender. These stories prove that fanfiction isn’t just escapism but also reallygoodand human.
