Which Authors Specialize In Writing Smut Romance Books?

I’m pretty much a smut romance kind of girl. I like my stories to have plot and interesting, well-developed characters. For a start of fantasy romance, Sarah J. Maas’s “A Court of Thorns and Roses” series is a good choice as many of the intimate scenes have been making their way around the internet. Nalini Singh’s Psy-Changeling series is also good for psychic/romance which covers the tender and wild sides of love.

For Contemporary, I want to recommend Helen Hoang’s The Kiss Quotient (it’s so hot and meaningful at the same time) and its protagonist is neurodivergent, which I found really great. Then there’s the Hot and Hammered series by Tessa Bailey, it’s a really funny book with some really hot scenes in between. And for something completely dark, there’s the ‘Monsters in the Dark’ trilogy by Pepper Winters.

What these authors write is “smut” but it is also deep, meaningful and sticks with you long after you finish reading the book. Often it’s a mix of fantasy and contemporary but it always means more than just hot sex and it makes the heat meaningful.

Many of these authors really manage to combine sexual content with great stories, but there are a few who do it better than others. I love Tessa Dare’s historical smut novels, especially ‘The Duchess Deal’ as it’s not only extremely hot but also hilarious and sweet. If you’re looking for something a little more contemporary, then Elle Kennedy’s ‘Off-Campus’ series is the way to go as the characters have incredible chemistry in all of their scenarios. Last but not least, there’s Kresley Cole and her paranormal smut-infused novels which are full of fierce and addictive passion in her ‘Immortals After Dark’ series. Instead of just writing smut, these authors create stories where the smut is an integral part of the entire plot and therefore feels completely earned and even unforgettable.

Let’s take a look at some authors of smutty romance. Historical romance readers may enjoy Lisa Kleypas, particularly her ‘Wallflowers’ series. Her writing is so elegant it makes for a great read and there are plenty of hot scenes to keep you cool with a fan blowing off your face between chapters. If you’re looking for something a bit darker and more taboo in the smut department then Sierra Simone’s ‘New Camelot’ trilogy is a good place to start. The writer is poetic but bold in her creative work.

Penelope Douglas is another impressive writer of contemporary smut. Most notably, her novel Credence contains plenty of tense build-up to a really amazing payoff. There are also many great authors writing in the field of paranormal smut, including J.R. Ward and her famous Black Dagger Brotherhood series with hot and intense male characters. Another great example of paranormal smut is Ice Planet Barbarians by Ruby Dixon. It is a rather heartwarming sci-fi “romance” with plenty of sex.

And if you’re after some LGBTQ+ smut, the utter perfect blend of emotional depth and gorgeous, hot sex, then you really must read Alexis Hall’s ‘For Real’. For fans of a little suspense in their romance novels, meanwhile, Katee Robert’s ‘Dark Olympus’ series is a great read – reimagining the Greek myths in a modern, and very kinky, context. There’s such diversity within the genre and so much scope to read new things whether you’re after light-hearted fluff or something to push your boundaries.
