Oh wow, I literally just finished 'I’m a Fan' by Sheena Patel and saw it was optioned. That book is a brutal, stream-of-consciousness dive into obsession and social media jealousy. Adapting that interior voice will be a massive challenge—maybe use a lot of direct camera address or overlay text from the apps. It’s so modern and angry. It could be a really uncomfortable but brilliant character study if they’re brave enough to keep the protagonist as unlikable as she is in the book. Not a feel-good watch, but an important one.

Man, I just want a good, faithful adaptation of 'The Kingkiller Chronicle'. But that’s never happening, is it? Rothfuss needs to finish the book first! Sorry, off-topic. But it’s the dream. A boy can dream.

Which top books right now are getting movie adaptations?

there are some exciting ones brewing. 'The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes' by Suzanne Collins, a prequel to 'The Hunger Games', is already generating massive buzz with its trailer release. Another hot pick is 'The Color Purple', based on Alice Walker's iconic novel, which promises a fresh musical take. Fans of Rebecca Yarros' 'Fourth Wing' are ecstatic about its adaptation news, though details are still under wraps. I'm personally hyped for 'Project Hail Mary' by Andy Weir, the genius behind 'The Martian', which has Ryan Gosling attached. These adaptations show Hollywood's continued love affair with literary works, especially those with built-in fandoms.

there are some exciting ones in the pipeline. 'Dune: Part Two' is one of the most anticipated, based on Frank Herbert's sci-fi masterpiece. The first part was visually stunning, and I can't wait to see how they continue the story. Another one is 'The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes,' a prequel to 'The Hunger Games' series. It’s been years since the original movies, and this fresh take has me hyped. Also, 'The Nickel Boys' by Colson Whitehead is getting adapted, and given the book’s powerful narrative, I’m curious how it’ll translate to screen. These adaptations are bringing some of the best stories to life, and I’m here for it.

Do good new mystery books often get adapted into TV shows?

I've noticed that mystery books with strong, unique hooks tend to get picked up for TV adaptations more often. For example, 'Gone Girl' and 'Big Little Lies' both started as gripping mystery novels before becoming hit shows. Publishers and studios seem to love stories with twists that keep audiences guessing. The key is whether the book has a visual appeal—settings like small towns or eerie mansions translate well to screen. Character-driven mysteries, especially those with complex leads like 'Sharp Objects,' also stand a higher chance. That said, not every great mystery book gets adapted. It often depends on timing, trends, and whether a producer falls in love with the story.
