I love the box sets because they come with the bonus posters and booklets! That's part of the fun. When you're shopping, just make sure the product description mentions the extras to confirm it's the official box set and not just a bundle of volumes someone put together. The official Viz sets always include something special. It's a nice little reward for collecting a big chunk of the story at once. The artwork on the box itself is usually gorgeous too.
