Wait, are we talking about the Tim LaHaye and Jerry B. Jenkins books? My grandma had the whole set. She always said to read the main ones first because the prequels "wouldn't make sense otherwise." My take is a bit different. If you're into deep lore and don't mind a non-linear story, try the internal chronological order: Prequel Trilogy ('The Rising', 'The Regime', 'The Rapture'), then the original twelve. It's a huge time commitment upfront before the main event, but you'll have an encyclopedia knowledge of the Antichrist's rise to power before the Tribulation even starts. It's an experiment, for sure.

I found the later books in the main series really repetitive. The first few are gripping, but the formula becomes obvious. Maybe just read 1-4 and then skip to the final book if you want the conclusion. You won't miss much plot; the middle is mostly padding with sermons and recaps. So, chronological order for the first act, then a leap to the finale.
