The order is a non-issue if you just look at the book spines! They're numbered clearly. 'The Thirteenth Fairy' is #1, 'The Broken Mirror' is #2, 'The Stolen Slipper' is #3, and 'The Missing Sword' is #4. I appreciate when series make it obvious. Sometimes books have different titles in other countries, which can mess things up, but for the standard US editions, the numbers are right there. Just grab them in numerical order from your library or bookstore shelf. Problem solved.

The library app I use only had books 2, 4, and 5. So I read 2, then 4, then 5, then hunted down 1 and 3. It was a bizarre way to learn the story—I knew the middle, then the end, then the beginning and other middle. Surprisingly, it felt like solving a puzzle, and the prequel hit harder because I already knew the tragic ending. Unorthodox, but fun.

My two cents: the series improves on a second read no matter what order you choose first. The foreshadowing is incredible. So pick any logical-sounding order from this thread, dive in, and know that your re-read will be an even richer experience where all the pieces click into place. It's designed for that.

My bookstore always has the later books in stock but never the first one. It's a common problem. So the reading order is clear, but accessing them in that order can be a pain. I had to request 'The Thirteenth Fairy' through inter-library loan. Persist! Getting them in order is worth the extra effort.

Is the series finished? I know four books are out. If it's a completed quartet, then the reading order is locked in. If more are coming, the order for the existing ones is still 1 through 4. Future books would just become 5, 6, etc. So for now, the correct order is a four-book sequence. It's a complete story arc as far as I know.

What is the correct Never After book series order to read?

Hmm. I've only read the third one because the cover was cool. I liked it, but everyone says I missed a lot. Maybe I should go back and start from the beginning. This thread is convincing me.

What is the correct reading order of the Never Kiss Your Best Friend novel series?

The 'Never Kiss Your Best Friend' universe is more sprawling than people realize. There's a cameo from the protagonist's cousin that links to the author's other series, 'Always Text Your Enemy'. That book's events run parallel to 'Never Kiss Your Best Friend 2'. For the full crossover experience, you'd need a spreadsheet. For this series alone, stick to the trilogy. The crossover is just an Easter egg, not essential.

In what order should I read Never After books and companion stories?

My two cents: the audiobook versions add another layer. The narrator for the main series is consistent, but the companions sometimes have guest narrators for different POV characters. Listening in publication order lets you appreciate that casting choice. The switch to a new voice for 'Tales from the Hinterlands' perfectly matches its anthology feel. If you're an audiobook person, that's the order that respects the production design as well as the narrative.

Does the Never After series publication order match its timeline?

Why is everyone so obsessed with order? The writing is either good or it isn't. I started with 'The Broken Mirror', was confused but enthralled, and went back. The quality of the prose and the strength of the characters held me even when I was lost. A story that only works in one specific order is a fragile story. 'Never After' is robust. It can handle being discovered out of order.
