I still have my old Paperwhite from maybe six years back and honestly, it’s the MVP for my more sensitive browsing. The e-ink screen makes everything look just like a regular novel—no glowing screen screaming "I’M READING SOMETHING STEAMY" to everyone on the subway. The battery lasts for ages, which is perfect for those nights you get lost in a series and don’t want to hunt for a charger. I sideload most of my spicy finds from online libraries anyway, so the Amazon store’s limitations aren’t really a problem.
The privacy features are the real winner. I can create a collections folder with a boring name and password-lock the device. It just feels discreet in a way a tablet never can. I tried reading on my iPad once and the glossy reflection and notifications popping up totally killed the mood.

Honestly? My phone. It’s always with me. The experience isn't as immersive as a bigger screen, but the convenience factor is unbeatable. Quick five-minute reads during a work break, catching up on a serial while waiting in line—it all happens on the phone. Most reading apps have excellent dark modes now, which is easier on the eyes late at night. You just have to be a bit more mindful of your notification settings.

If we're talking best experience, it has to be a tablet, hands down. My Samsung Galaxy Tab has a gorgeous OLED screen that makes cover art and any... illustrative elements... pop. You get full web browser access to all the serialized fiction platforms and independent author sites without jumping through hoops. A good tablet paired with the Libby app from your local library is a dangerous combo—you can sample so many different romance and erotica subgenres without spending a cent.
Sure, it’s not as discreet as an e-reader, but the versatility wins for me. I can have ten tabs open, switch between a spicy webtoon, a steamy audiobook on Everand, and a dark romance PDF, all with the benefit of a big, clear screen. Just turn on do-not-disturb and maybe invest in a good privacy screen protector.

Man, I've thought about this a lot, and I keep coming back to one thing: it's the screen. You just can't beat a big, high-resolution color display for comics. That's why, for me, the answer leans heavily towards tablets, not dedicated e-ink readers.
I tried reading 'The Sandman' on my old Kindle Paperwhite, and while it was fine for text-heavy graphic novels, anything with detailed, moody art lost so much impact in grayscale. Switched to a standard iPad and it was like seeing the pages for the first time. The colors in the 'Amulet' series just popped. Sure, e-ink is easier on the eyes for novels, but comics are a visual feast—you need that vibrancy.
The 12.9-inch iPad Pro is probably the absolute pinnacle. The screen real estate matches a physical comic page almost perfectly, and the ProMotion display makes panel-to-panel scrolling buttery smooth. It's expensive, though. For a more balanced option, I think Samsung's Galaxy Tab S9 series gives Apple a real run for its money, especially with its OLED screens delivering perfect blacks, which is crucial for dark, cinematic comics like 'Something is Killing the Children.' They handle files from the Kindle app, Google Play Books, and standalone apps like Panel Syndicate really well.
Honestly, the ecosystem matters too. I find myself hopping between Comixology, Libby for library borrows, and the DC Universe Infinite app. A versatile tablet lets you do that without being locked into one store. My Kindle Scribe gathers dust for anything with pictures.
Can we talk about file management? A device that makes it a chore to get your PDFs onto it is uncomfortable from the start. That's why I prefer Android-based tablets or e-readers. I can just drag and drop files via USB or use a cloud sync app like FolderSync. The Kindle's email-to-send system feels clunky in comparison.
