Which Elin Hilderbrand Book Should I Read First According To Goodreads?
Goodreads reviews are helpful, but still can't decide which of her summer beach reads to pick as my introduction to Elin Hilderbrand's Nantucket novels.

Ignore 'should'. What's the most interesting to you right now? A murder mystery? A second-chance romance? A story about sisters? A Christmas tale? Let your curiosity lead, not a crowd-sourced ranking. The best first book is the one you'll actually finish and enjoy, not the one that's statistically the 'best'. Goodreads is a tool for synopses and reviews, not a definitive oracle.

My personal entry point was '28 Summers', inspired by the movie 'Same Time Next Year'. The premise—a couple meets for one weekend every year for decades—is such a compelling hook that it pulls you right in. It’s less about a mystery and more about the poignant passage of time and the 'what ifs' of life. The emotional payoff is huge. Goodreads is full of people who were utterly wrecked by this book in the best way, so if you're in the mood for a heartfelt, decades-spanning love story, jump in here.

Look, the popular answer will be 'The Perfect Couple' because it's a crowd-pleaser. But if you want to know if you'll truly become a fan, start with 'The Island'. It's a multi-generational story about four women retreating to a family cottage. It dives deep into mother-daughter dynamics, secrets, and personal renewal. The character development is some of her best. If this one resonates with you, you'll likely enjoy her entire bibliography. If it feels too slow, then maybe her lighter, plot-driven books are more your speed.

Okay, I'm going to lurk and take notes. My TBR pile doesn't need another book, but all this talk about Nantucket is making me want a vacation in book form. I'll check back later for the consensus!

My first was 'The Matchmaker', and I still think about the protagonist, Dabney. It's a quieter, more poignant story about a woman who arranges perfect couples but faces her own romantic crisis. It's less about glitz and more about heart. It might not have the highest rating, but it has a dedicated fanbase who consider it her most emotionally mature work. Don't let aggregate scores completely overshadow books with passionate niche appeal.

Five years. That's how long Alina Hayes has been Mrs. Daniel Blackwood—in name only. Their arranged marriage gave her a title, a mansion, and a son to love. But her billionaire husband? He's never shared her bed, remembered their anniversary, or looked at her like a wife.
When Clarissa Sterling—Daniel's first wife, the woman who abandoned them—returns, everything Alina built crumbles. His mother wants her gone. High society whispers. And Daniel? He won't fight for her.
Alina faces an impossible choice: stay invisible in a loveless marriage, or walk away from the only child who's ever called her "Mom."
For three years, Elena endured a husband who barely acknowledged her, a mother-in-law who treated her like hired help, and a sister-in-law who sneered that she was nothing but a golddigger. All the while, her husband, Damien, pined after his “perfect” ex, like his own wife didn’t exist.
Until the day Elena had enough.
She signed the divorce papers, packed a single bag, and vanished.
Damien was certain she’d come crawling back within a week. But the woman they all dismissed? Turns out Elena is a billionaire heiress, the CEO of the very empire Damien has been desperate to partner with and the one now signing his paychecks.
Oops.
Now Damien is spiraling, realizing too late what he lost. But Elena has choices she never had before. Like her childhood best friend, an NFL star who’s been in love with her all along.
So who will it be?
The ex-husband who finally woke up?
The best friend who never left?
Or has Elena finally decided she’s done with men who don’t deserve her?

I’d say 'The Perfect Couple' is the ideal starting point. It’s a gripping mix of romance, mystery, and Nantucket’s sun-soaked vibes—Hilderbrand’s signature setting. The story revolves around a wedding gone wrong, with secrets unraveling in the most addictive way.
If you prefer something lighter, '28 Summers' is a gorgeous choice. It captures a decades-long love affair with bittersweet nostalgia, making it impossible to put down. For fans of family dramas, 'The Identicals' is a fun dive into twin sisters swapping lives, packed with humor and heart. Each book immerses you in beachy escapism, but these three offer the best intro to her storytelling magic.
To me, the interesting metric isn't the rank, but the 'rating details' page. How many ratings are 5s vs. 4s? A book with 80% 4-star ratings is probably a consistently enjoyable workhorse. A book with 60% 5-star ratings has a more passionate, if perhaps smaller, fanbase. That passion gap tells a story the single average number obscures.
'Holidays on the Nantucket' might have a lower average than '28 Summers,' but its die-hard fans are die-hard. I'd explore that.
