Ugh, I hate when this happens. You get recommended a book, get all excited, and then hit a paywall. I'm with you. My ritual is: check Libby, check Hoopla, if not there, add to my Amazon wishlist and wait for a price drop email. It's like a little gift to future me when it finally goes on sale. This book is on my wishlist, still waiting for that drop.

I actually asked the author this on Twitter once during a Q&A! They were super nice about it. They said while they'd love for everyone to read it, they can't afford to make it permanently free as it's a significant part of their income. They do run sales and encourage library requests. I respected that honesty. Following authors gives you the real scoop on price changes.

But when one reckless debt threatens his life, it leaves me no choice but to beg his older brother, Reign, for help.
Reign’s deal is simple: he’ll pay Derek’s debt.
In exchange, I become his.
For six months, I belong to the one man I should never want,
my future stepbrother, my Alpha, my forbidden craving.
And the worst part?
Every time he touches me, I stop caring about right and wrong.
I’m not here to make friends. I’m here to graduate top of my class, get into the best law firm, and make my brother proud.
What I’m not here for?
Sharing an apartment with Cade freaking West.
My brother’s best friend. Tattooed, cocky, insufferable. A walking red flag on skates with a motorcycle named Roxie and a different girl in his bed every night.
We don’t get along. We never have—especially not after what happened.
He hates me for it. I don’t regret it.
I was right.
But the longer we’re forced to live under the same roof, the harder it gets to ignore the heat. The tension. The way he looks at me like he’s two seconds from ruining my entire life.

He is a 10 but he is a decade older than me, my brother’s best friend, a therapist who wants to counsel me and... he likes to hurt little girls like me.
“What were you doing this morning?”
“I was meditating.”
He is right. I am a terrible liar.
Aiden raised his eyebrows. “Is that so?”
He waited for my answer, crossing his arms over his chest. I got distracted by the way his biceps bulged.
He noticed me staring. I glanced down at my lap, twiddling my thumbs. “Y-yes, Doctor Aiden, I was meditating and I-I focused on my breath like you taught me—”
“Why are you lying to me, Ivy?”
My head snapped at him. “I-I am not lying.”
Aiden tilted his head and my throat went dry when he said, “Then why did I hear your voice moaning my name when you orgasmed with your fingers inside you?"
He is her first love. She is his best friend's little sister. Will a chance reunion lead to true love?
I was a good girl. An honor student.
A dutiful daughter, sister and a sweet girlfriend to my boyfriend until I found him in my best friend’s bed. I didn’t want goody-two-shoe nice boys who gave me empty promises.
What I wanted was a man who wouldn’t hurt me. When I found my brother’s best friend, Aiden Stone, with only a towel around his hot Greek body dripping wet from a shower, I decided that what I wanted, what I had been wanting for years, was him.
The only problem? He is a decade older than me, my brother’s best friend, a therapist who wants to counsel me and... he likes to hurt little girls like me.
JADEN BAKER is stoked about college, new friends, and a second chance to erase the memory of high school. But moving on comes with a price. Her dad has made arrangements for her to move into her brother's apartment.
But there's a glitch in her dad's plans. There are also two roommates living in the apartment. Suddenly, living in an off campus apartment with three college-aged boys seems like a bad idea -- but not to Jaden.
CADE JENKINS grew up on the opposite side of the tracks from his best-friend and his privileged little sister. But things are looking up. He's met someone. Too bad she's his best-friend's fresh out of high-school, inexperienced little sister.
Man, I just want to read a good story without jumping through a hundred hoops. Remember when books were just... books? You'd buy them or borrow them from the library. This whole serialized, microtransactional model feels designed to extract maximum money from maximum impatience. I get that it's a way for indie authors to make a living, and that's great, but as a reader, it's exhausting. Sometimes I think about just going back to reading physical books from authors I already know and trust.
But then I hear about a story like this and get curious. The cycle continues. I'll probably cave and download another app by the end of the day.
I'm just here for the recommendations. Every time someone asks about a specific book, the comments inevitably spin off into 'if you like that, you'll love THIS!' It's my favorite way to find new reads. So... anyone got any good brother's best friend recs while we're here?
Can you? It's practically mandatory for that genre! Half the fun is getting a notification that a new chapter is out and immediately diving in on your phone. While this specific book is a complete novel, many similar stories are serialized on apps where phone reading is the primary, if not only, option.
Why does this feel like it changes every other month? I swear I started reading it when it had 18 chapters on Radish, then it jumped to 25 after a binge-update, and now I've lost track.
Seriously, the hunt for official sites can be a real pain. I've been through this with a few indie romance web novels myself, and 'Indie and the Brother's Best Friend' is one of those titles that seems to circulate mostly on fan translation blogs and aggregator sites. I haven't been able to locate a dedicated, publisher-run web novel portal for it. The author might have initially posted it on a platform like Wattpad or Webnovel, but if it's an original story, it could have been taken down or moved. Your best bet is to search for the author's name directly; sometimes they maintain a personal blog or social media with links.
It's a common issue with stories that gain popularity through unofficial channels. They often lack a clear, official online home, which is frustrating for readers who want to support the creator.
It's wild how often this comes up. Look, I get wanting to read without spending money, but 'Best Friends' isn't some public domain classic. The author probably spent years writing and editing it. Finding a free download outside of a library or a legitimate promotional offer usually means someone pirated it. I'm not here to moralize, but supporting the creators we enjoy ensures they can keep making more stuff. Check the author's website or social media—they sometimes run giveaways or temporary price drops that are the ethical way to snag a deal.
