Meh, I read them all in publication order, novels and shorts as they came out. It was fine. You get the novels as the main course and the shorts as little palate cleansers. Sometimes a short would reference an event from a novel I'd just read, sometimes it would hint at something coming. It felt organic. This obsession with perfect chronological order is a modern fandom thing. Just read the stuff and enjoy it.
