Pre-publication legal review for anything that could be defamatory or highly invasive is a lifesaver, and having clear editorial guidelines about anonymous tips, minors, and sexual or health-related allegations reduces risk. Training editors on the differences between 'alleged' and 'proven', using careful language, redacting sensitive data, and obtaining consent for private materials are practical steps.
