The length is over 20 hours. That's a huge value for one Audible credit, which is usually around $15. If you stream music, you pay $10 a month for unlimited songs. This is a 20-hour immersive drama for a similar price. Framing it that way helped me get over my platform aversion.

If you're a student or have a .edu email, check out Audible's student discount. Might make grabbing it less painful. Also, Audible lets you exchange books if you really don't like them, so there's that safety net. Not that you'll need it with 'Jade War'—it's a stellar listen. The clan intrigue sounds even better when performed.

It's wild that in 2024, finding a specific audiobook is still a scavenger hunt. You'd think with all the tech, it'd be easier. Instead, we have a dozen different apps with fractured rights. 'Jade War' is a casualty of that. Audible is the one-stop shop, like it or not.

The real pro-tip: if you have an Alexa device, you can sometimes use Audible through that without even using the app. Just ask Alexa to read your Audible book. It's a hands-free way to 'stream' it in your home. Not useful for commutes, but great for chores.

In a world where the moon shattered and the strong devoured the weak, Neoma Solstice is nothing. A scentless Null. A ghost. A mistake.
Until the day she saves a dying Lycan warrior with a touch, and her secret is revealed: she's Void-Born, the rarest mutation in existence. The same power that makes her invisible makes her invaluable—a living weapon that can cure the incurable Feral Rot plaguing the Lycan Ascendancy.
Captured and collared, Neoma is forced to serve as "Tether" to Unit Vanguard: four elite soldiers on the brink of madness. Barzil, the ruthless Commander who sees her as a mission. Wolfy, the cold Tactician who sees her as a puzzle. Viggo, the feral Berserker who sees her as salvation. Guller, the fallen Priest who sees her as redemption.
They own her contract. They control her life. They swear she's just a tool.
But tools don't make their masters kneel.
As Neoma's power grows, so does the threat she poses to the regime that enslaved her. When the prophesied Blood Moon rises, she'll have to choose: remain the Ascendancy's battery, or become the Void that devours them whole.
Some bonds are forged in blood. Some in magic. Theirs was forged in desperation—and it might be the only thing strong enough to save a dying world.
The Obsidian Covenant is a dark dystopian reverse harem romance featuring a morally gray FMC, four obsessive MLs, found family dynamics, enemies-to-lovers, rejected mate redemption, and a slow-burn that explodes into high heat. Perfect for fans of The Cruel Prince meets Den of Vipers in a post-apocalyptic wasteland.
No choosing. No apologies. No mercy.
For centuries, the Sky Border has kept werewolves and humans gifted with magic apart. Its ruthless Watchers uphold the most sacred law of Parlem—hybrids must never exist.
Jade doesn’t know what she is. She only knows something wild and untamed lives inside her. One night, it takes over, robbing her of consciousness. When she wakes—bruised, aching, and surrounded by a group of armed men—she realizes she’s being hunted for a crime she doesn’t even remember.
Then Kema saves her—a golden-eyed Watcher with a godlike beauty that steals her breath. He offers her a single path to survival: to hide what she is, she must join the Watchers and survive their hellish training. But as Jade hones her fire magic, the pull between them grows dangerous and undeniable.
When the truth of her birth is finally revealed, so is a secret dark enough to start a war between werewolves and humans.
Now, Jade is worth more dead than alive. If she runs, they’ll find her. If she fights, she might lose herself. But one thing is certain—she isn’t dying for anybody. Maybe Kema.
This is a tale of a young hero, born a peasant and an outcast (the lowest bracket of life), in a society where nobles and kings rule the world. Bran lived his life like every normal young boy, unaware of his destiny and happy to be with his family and loved ones. However, all that changed when he came across a powerful jade, wanted by the forces of good and evil.
With the re-appearance of another powerful jade into the world, the balance of power tips once again, as an unspoken evil (a calamity) rises to fulfil a thousand year curse owed to her by the kingdom.
Nia Whitaker built her reputation solving disasters for the powerful.
As one of the most sought-after corporate crisis strategists in the country, she’s hired to clean up scandals that could destroy billion-dollar empires. But when a catastrophic data leak threatens SatoTech’s largest acquisition, Nia is pulled into a crisis unlike anything she’s handled before.
Because the company’s heir isn’t just another client.
Kenji Sato is brilliant, ruthless, and always three moves ahead. A tech empire rests on his shoulders, and he protects it with calculated precision. The deeper Nia digs into the breach threatening his company, the more she begins to suspect the impossible.
The crisis may have been engineered.
By Kenji himself.
But corporate warfare is only the beginning.
Rival companies move in the shadows. Government investigators begin asking dangerous questions. And someone inside Kenji’s world is willing to burn everything—including Nia—to seize control of the empire.
Caught between enemies, betrayal, and a man whose obsession with her grows more dangerous by the day, Nia realizes she’s no longer just managing a crisis.
She’s inside the war.
And the man she’s supposed to expose may be the only one powerful enough to protect her.
In a game where power is everything, and loyalty can cost you your life, one truth becomes impossible to ignore:
Kenji Sato doesn’t just want Nia Whitaker to fix his empire.
He wants her.
And in his world, the things he wants… he claims.
When the Supreme God of Heavens disappeared, the gods of the Greeks, Norse, Mayans, Egyptians, Chinese, and many more sent their young mortal champions to a magical world in order to participate in the Game of Heavens and Earth on their behalf to win the divine throne. However, the young mortals used their powers, weapons, and tools that were bestowed upon them to form themselves into guilds and create a paradise for everyone. To any kid from Earth, an exciting adventure and new beginning await them, and Sam Roche is one of those lucky chosen ones — or is he still unlucky?
Since everything is in peace, Sam tries to build a new life in the City of New Beginning while hiding his dark secrets from his new friends about the sins he committed back on Earth. Eventually, Sam and his friends discover that the strongest guilds have long controlled the paradise, and their rivalry might spark a war that will engulf the land. Wanting to get away as much as possible, they decide that they form their own guild and leave the city. However, a powerful guild is threatening the fragile peace of the magical world in order to win the Game of Heavens and Earth. Sam must either run away to save himself or become a hero to save not only his friends but both worlds.
For a different angle: if you care about character arcs above all, the order is vital. Hilo's transformation from a hot-headed Horn to the calculating Pillar of No Peak is a two-book journey. Listening sequentially lets you hear the subtle changes in the narrator's portrayal of his voice and demeanor.
Honestly, the way the narrator voices the younger generation versus the old guards is key. Kaul Lan and his siblings often sound like they're trying to wear clothes that don't quite fit, their voices straining under the weight of tradition. The older clan leaders, like the Horns or Ayt Mada, speak with a worn-in, unshakeable authority. The rivalry isn't just between clans; it's aurally framed as a clash between old ways and desperate attempts at change, which adds a fantastic layer of tragedy.
The supporting cast is also a reason. Characters like Bero, the street-level punk, or Wen, Hilo's wife, have arcs that begin in 'Jade City'. In 'Jade War', their stories evolve in significant ways. If you start with the sequel, Bero is just a random violent kid, and Wen is just a serene pregnant wife.
You miss Bero's origins as a pathetic wannabe, which makes his rise more unsettling. You miss Wen's quiet strength and intelligence being established in the first book, which makes her role in the sequel more impactful. They become background characters instead of integral threads in the tapestry. The audiobook gives them distinct voices, but without their history, those voices have less character.
The treatment of immigrants and outsiders, like the Ygutanian refugees. Their strained integration, the suspicion they face, the way they try to adopt Kekonese customs while holding onto their own. The narrator often gives these characters slightly different vocal flavors, highlighting their 'otherness' within Janloon.
It showcases the limits and tensions within Kekon’s clan-based culture, which is deeply insular and based on lineage. The cultural detail is in the friction, in the uneasy attempts at belonging, and in the prejudice that simmers beneath the surface of a society that values its own purity. It’s a crucial, often uncomfortable layer that the audiobook doesn’t soften.
What's the narrator's name again? I need to look up what else he's done. If he brings this much thought to other projects, I'm sold. The way he ties voice to a character's physical and magical state is next-level character acting. It's not just doing voices; it's doing full-body, internal-state performances. That's a rare skill in audiobook narration, where often the goal is just clarity and pleasant listening. He goes for emotional and physiological truth, which is a whole different ballgame.
