The author, Kaelen Thorne, seems to work on a pretty set eighteen-month schedule for the mainline novels. We got 'Stellar Drift' in January '22, 'Nebula's Veil' in July '23, and the next one, 'Eventide's Echo', is already up for pre-order with a November '24 date. That's a solid track record.

Of course, 'regularly' depends on your definition. For some readers who binge web serials that update daily, eighteen months feels like an eternity. But for a traditionally published fantasy series with intricate world-building, that's actually a brisk pace. Thorne also puts out novellas and short story collections in the interim, which helps fill the gap for die-hard fans. I'd say the rhythm is predictable, which is a blessing in a genre where some authors vanish for a decade between books.

My rule is if a series takes more than two years per book, I stop following the release schedule and just treat it as a completed set I'll revisit someday. 'Night Sky' is creeping into that territory for me. The story is dense enough that I have to re-read the previous book anyway, so what's another year or two? I'll just wait until the author announces the final book and then do a full series binge. Less stress, more enjoyment.

Honestly, I gave up waiting. The first three books were amazing, and they came out yearly. Then after 'Celestial Ashes', the wait stretched to two years, then two and a half. The author's blog says they're dealing with some health stuff and want to get the ending right, which I totally respect. But for me, a series stops being 'regular' when the gaps get that long and unpredictable. My reading group has mostly moved on; we'll maybe circle back if the next one ever drops and gets good reviews, but the momentum's gone. It's a shame, because the world was so rich.

It feels regular-ish? The core books come out like clockwork, but the author's definition of a 'volume' has gotten kinda fuzzy. Last year's release was technically a 'Night Sky Chronicles' book, but it was a sidequel following a different character and only 250 pages. Felt more like an extended novella than a proper main series entry. I don't mind the shorter stuff—it fleshes out the universe—but I wish the publisher would label them more clearly as '1.5' or '2.5' instead of slapping a new volume number on them. Makes the main sequence seem slower than it is.
