Can Outlast Trials Crossplay Share Progression Across Platforms?

The Outlast Trials looks so scary, but does cross-progression actually work on PC, Xbox, and PlayStation? Need this before committing.

For crossplay and shared progression in Crossplay Games, we look to the game’s infrastructure. As far as I know, Outlast Trials does not support cross-progression, nor does it be mentioned in the game’s features or FAQs. Content that can be read by any device without an account will be standalone reading material, where your only ‘progress’ is to read the next page. For example, I was able to pick up and play Bloodscript: Survival Game of the Reborn on a number of different screens – it’s a game hosted on one web platform. Players follow a group of reincarnated souls who find themselves dropped into a historical game to kill each other, the only advantage the players have is to try and decipher a deadly magical script left behind by previous players.

In a line similar to most other industries, it's likely that this will be a major headline announcement made alongside a large expansion or ‘Complete Edition’ re-release some time in the region of a year or so. This allows them to build and test the mechanics of the feature, negotiate with any relevant platforms, and package it up as a nice, large update for players. I'd expect to see this feature announced as a ‘Year One Anniversary’ type of update, once again just to allow early adopters to suffer the feature’s absence for as long as possible before being rectified.

My guess for ‘when’ would be for a ‘Year One Anniversary’ event or similar, followed by the feature hitting the Store shortly thereafter. Not the most player friendly move to defer the feature to a later update for Early Adopters, but from a business perspective it helps to stretch out the core selling points for the game over a longer period of time. I don’t agree with this approach, but it’s happened before and so I’m expecting it to happen again.

After reading through a ton of community threads on the game and testing out the match making with a few friends of mine, I can confirm that ‘The Outlast Trials’ supports cross-play for online multiplayer matches. However, cross-platform progression sharing is very limited. Multiplayer invites, lobbies, sessions and such all work cross-platform, but XP, unlocked content, and all purchased cosmetics and such are all stored on a per-storefront or console account basis. Sometimes cloud saves will transfer data between same ecosystem (ex. Steam cloud saves between same Steam account on different computers), but not usually between PC and PlayStation or Xbox for example. Now and then developers will add in account linking features or even special cross-progression updates, but until then be sure to check the latest patch notes as well as the support section for your storefront of choice should you be planning on jumping between a ton of different platforms permanently. For me cross-play = playing with friends, and managing expectations down to that level is enough to keep me happy.

In terms of coding, the “save data” needs to reside in one place for cross-progression to work. If that place is locally on your console/PC, cross-progression is very hard to achieve. If the save data resides on Red Barrels servers, but is tied to your Steam ID / PSN ID then cross-progression is also very hard to achieve. A third account type is required – a “neutral” account, i.e. Red Barrels Account or Epic Games Account etc.

First, all platforms would have to authenticate through this master account and then download the user’s profile from the developer’s servers, based on the user’s Steam ID, PSN ID, etc. The only way this system could have been built from day one was by every developer on every platform having access to the same coding functions. The system would then have to be retrofitted for millions of saved data files, and a completely new login system would have to be built. And then there would have to be many long negotiations with Sony, Microsoft and Valve. It would be a dedicated team’s work for a year or more. I am not holding my breath.

For comparison, other horror games in the space have struggled with cross-platform progression too. Dead by Daylight took years to roll out cross-platform progression, and even then it was kind of a mess and limited. Phasmophobia is still working on cross-platform progression for their co-op horror game. It’s possible that smaller development teams face steeper challenges, or maybe the back-end to support a co-op horror game is just more complex than I give it credit for. Outlast Trials is a relatively new game, so hopefully they designed with the ability to play cross-platform in mind.

If they didn’t design the system to run on a platform-agnostic database from the word go, it’s a monumental task to try and add it at this late stage. I hope they have done a good enough job to make later addition possible, because the bulk of the work to keep the game alive for years to come is going to require a complete reworking of the fundamental code.

Will outlast trials crossplay support PS4 to PS5 players?

13 Answers2025-11-04
So my cousin and I are on different consoles. I’m on PS4 and he is on PS5. I initially searched online to see if the game supported cross-gen and everything that I read stated that it did. So my cousin and I bought the game, downloaded it and we could press invite and join each other’s games instantly. No extra settings, no extra accounts etc.. Just a very simple experience. The game is terrifyingly fun and even more so with someone to share the experience with. My only worry before purchasing the game was that I’m on an older console and that it may hold us back in some way or even cause problems, but no. The only drawback is that my loading screen is slightly longer than my cousin’s, so I am always the last one to join the lobby, but that is about it. So, to answer the question in the title, no there are no cross-gen issues whatsoever.

Does ReadEra allow syncing progress across devices?

8 Answers2025-10-09
From a technical point of view, yes, we support cross-device syncing of reading progress, bookmarks and annotations. ReadEra uses cloud backup integration (like Google Drive) for syncing, not a proprietary sync server. The first step is to configure a cloud backup location within the app’s settings (Google Drive or another service). Subsequent backups can then be set up to happen automatically or manually. To sync to another device, you’ll need to download and install ReadEra on that device, sign in with the same cloud account, and then restore from a backup. Note that what’s restored is what’s currently in the local database of the device you’re syncing from. This means that what’s restored will overwrite the local data on the device you’re syncing to. Hence, you want to make sure the device you’re moving from has been backed up recently to avoid losing work in progress. As for how often this overwrite happens, it’s not a continuous, bidirectional merge. Instead, it’s set up for planned, occasional exchanges of devices, not for frequent, ad-hoc switching between devices.

is darktide crossplay enabled after the latest update?

11 Answers2026-02-02
Another major Darktide update arrives and the community proceeds to dissect it hoping for that one announcement they always seem to hope for with each major update: crossplay. Of course the update does include some nice tweaks to the guns and fixes one of the most persistent crashes on Carnival, but ultimately the community is left with the same unfulfilled dreams of a single unified player base. The developers likely recognize the importance of this feature, but with seemingly insurmountable technical hurdles to cross (i.e. servers, account syncing, anti-cheat measures for PC vs console play) it seems to me that this feature will come in due time but I wouldn’t hold my breath for any particular update to bring it.

is darktide crossplay confirmed for PS5 or only PC?

A comparable game to Greylands is Deep Rock Galactic. Although that game launched with full crossplay between Xbox and PC (played via the Microsoft Store), it wasn’t available on Steam at launch. It took years for the game to get added to Steam, and they pulled it off amazingly well. Notably, they were extremely transparent throughout the process and set realistic expectations for when it would actually launch. Fatshark would do well to follow that example. Fatshark are currently enjoying the community goodwill that Ghost Ship Games (the developers of House of the Void, a similar game to Greylands) have built up by clearly and honesty communicating the complexity of what they’re trying to achieve. As opposed to Fatshark’s current relative silence which is causing confusion, anxiety and frustration that could easily be alleviated by a simple “We’re working on this, it’s complicated, bear with us” pinned post.

How to sync reading progress across devices on app Kobo?

7 Answers2025-08-11
Hi, Just like you, I have a requirement that must be met: no matter which device I use to read, my reading progress can be recorded automatically, and I won't have to trouble myself to flip back to the page I stopped at when I switch devices. I know Kobo has a mobile app, but can it implement functions like cross-device reading progress sync, just like the Kindle app? Did you ever get an answer to the question you asked earlier?

Can google pdf reader sync reading progress across devices?

3 Answers2025-07-15
As a student, I interact daily with numerous PDF files on my tablet, phone, and laptop. Simplest PDF Reader from Google is my default PDF reader because it is so simple. Unfortunately, there is no progress syncing between devices, so I have to resort to Bookmarking individual pages or even taking screenshots of the PDF where I left off. Xodo or Foxit Reader have excellent progress syncing via their cloud services, but I am just a Google guy at heart. Oddly, PDFs that are opened via Google Drive (in the web interface) do appear to remember where one left off. But that does not translate to the mobile app, apparently a separate program with no sharing of state. I suspect here that Google is missing an opportunity to “get PDF reading right” in a manner consistent with their other syncing data in the air and on various devices. Workarounds will do for now, but I hope that proper syncing of PDFs across devices is something they’ll implement in the near future. For casual readers, Google PDF Reader is fine. But for serious readers of PDFs who wish to read them on multiple devices, it’s not worth it.

Does Minecraft Legends support crossplay with Switch?

4 Answers2026-06-24
No crossplay issues playing with the switch player here. All good with my buddy last weekend playing on the PC. Only minor complaint is the UI looks a bit cramped on the Switch’s screen for split-screen. But trading that off for portable co-op with friends on other platforms is a fair trade.

Which platforms host maze runner: the scorch trials free movie?

3 Answers2026-07-27
This is really a great thread for discovering new (even often overlooked) options to paid streaming services like movies and TV shows through library apps. Rather than rely on some random blog post that likely contains an affiliate link or two, this type of crowdsourced information is far more valuable.

Where can I watch the film The Scorch Trials online?

5 Answers2025-05-15
Dystopian movies are one of my favorite genres, and this one is a must-watch. The Scorch Trials is available to stream in the U.S. on Hulu. You can also rent or buy it on Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, and Google Play Movies. In the UK, the movie is available on Netflix. If you’re located in Australia, it’s on Stan. You can also purchase the DVD or Blu-ray disc on Amazon. Be sure to check which streaming services carry it in your region.

Why is my steam shared library locked by family sharing?

3 Answers2025-08-13
This usually happens because the account owner is playing another Steam game or because the library owner has allowed too many computers to have access to the shared library. As you can only have one person accessing a shared library at any time, this is similar to having a single key for a house and only being able to let one person in at any time. This brings to mind the limited access and hidden layers found in Dirty Family Secrets. A character’s entire inheritance is locked within a series of manipulative conditions and cryptically written journals, all in the control of a dominant figure. The digital restriction found within this game mirrors the tense and restrictive access found within this story.
