I looked everywhere a few months back. AO3 had like, two. One was a weird 'Nocturnals' meets 'Teen Wolf' thing where Ted was a werewolf, which sort of fit, I guess? The other was incomplete. FF.net had nothing tagged. It's such a deep cut. You might have more luck on old forum archives, but those are a nightmare to navigate. The platform hosting the 'most' is probably AO3 by default, because it hosts the only ones I could find.
The scarcity is kind of the point, isn't it? For a pairing this obscure, the platforms don't matter as much as the individual archivers. I remember this one fic from maybe 2008, hosted on a Geocities-style personal website that's long gone, but someone had saved the text and posted it in a comment thread on a Nocturnals fan art post on DeviantArt. That's where a lot of this stuff lives now—rescued in reblogs and comments and Google Docs links passed around Discord servers. If you're serious, I'd join a Nocturnals-focused Discord or maybe a small forum. The 'platform' is often just a link in a bio or a pinned post. AO3 is the official repository, but the living community for something this niche is probably scattered across social media, hoarding their gems.
If you're hunting for a hyper-specific niche like Diego and Ted from 'Nocturnals' crossing over into something else, your search is going to be rough. They're a super minor pairing from a comic that's already a bit of a cult thing, so you won't find a dedicated tag on the big sites.
AO3 is always my first stop for any ship, and it works here, but you have to be crafty. Searching just 'Nocturnals' fandom tag and then manually combing is the only way; sometimes people tag one character but not the other, or just put 'Diego' and expect you to know. I found maybe three fics total that way. The fandom's small enough that everything's on AO3, though; FF.net was a dead end, and Wattpad had zero relevant results.
It's the kind of search where you end up deep in the bookmarks of someone who wrote a fic ten years ago, hoping they linked to a now-defunct LiveJournal community. Honestly, the most I ever got was from a Tumblr blog that reblogged a snippet in 2014, and the link to the full story was broken. That's the reality of these tiny, old fandoms.
Yeah, AO3 is your only real bet for a searchable archive. Even then, it's sparse. I tried every tag combination I could think of. The crossover angle is what really kills it; most people writing for Nocturnals are just expanding the canon world, not throwing them into another universe. You might get lucky with someone writing for a Bingo challenge or a rare pair exchange, but those are one-offs. Good luck, you'll need it.
Honestly? You're better off looking for general 'Nocturnals' fanfic and seeing if any of it happens to feature them prominently. The crossover element makes it even more of a needle in a haystack. AO3 will have the highest concentration of semi-organized content because of the tagging system, but don't expect a 'Diego/Ted' tag. Try searching the character tags individually alongside fandom tags for whatever they're being crossed with, like 'Batman' or 'Supernatural'. It's tedious. I gave up after a while and just read the few gen fics about the comic itself. Sometimes the obsession isn't worth the hunt.

Then his eyes flashed gold, and I realized my temporary escape had led me somewhere far more dangerous than I’d ever imagined.

Lately I've been noticing a lot of Whitty x Carlos stuff popping up on Archive of Our Own, especially since Whitty's from 'Friday Night Funkin'' and Carlos is a 'Twilight' original character. AO3's tagging system is a lifesaver for finding these mashups. You can filter by both characters and then add the 'Crossover' tag to narrow it down. It seems like the bulk of the new, creative stories are there, often with some surprisingly deep takes on how a modern rockstar demon and a classic vampire would even interact.
Tumblr still has its share, but it's more art-heavy and the fics tend to be shorter snippets or headcanon threads. You really have to dig through reblog chains to find the longer pieces, which can be a hassle. I stumbled on one where Carlos was a centuries-old vampire observing Whitty's performances as a new form of 'chaotic art' and it was weirdly philosophical.
Oh man, diving into Diego and Ted's dynamic is like hitting the jackpot for a certain kind of angst. They've got that whole forced proximity, enemies-to-whatever-this-is tension that's just ripe for exploration. I stumbled on this one called 'Ambient Light' that completely rewired my brain. It's a slow-burn where they're trapped in the library's restricted section for a supernatural lockdown, and the author nails Ted's brittle intellect and Diego's simmering, predatory patience.
It's less about romance and more about two incompatible operating systems being forced to communicate. The dialogue is so sharp you could cut yourself. Another gem is 'Corpus Nocte,' which takes a much darker, body-horror adjacent route exploring Ted's transformation. It's not for everyone, but the visceral detail and the way Diego's clinical fascination bleeds into something like care is haunting. Honestly, skip the fluffier coffee shop AUs; the best stuff for this pairing leans hard into the gothic, unsettling core of the source material.
Diego and Ted from 'Nocturnals' have such a weird, specific chemistry—that grumpy eternal versus chaotic chaotic energy. Honestly, I scoured AO3 for ages trying to find something that didn't just make Ted a joke or Diego overly broody. The one that finally clicked for me was 'The Glow of Dying Embers' by ephemera. It's a slow-burn, post-canon thing where they're both stuck in some interdimensional pocket dimension after a case goes wrong. The author really gets the dialogue; Ted's manic rants actually have this undercurrent of loneliness, and Diego's stoicism frays in this believable way. It’s less about romance upfront and more about two incompatible forces having to rely on each other, which makes the eventual shift feel earned. The prose is a bit purple in places, but it suits the gothic vibe of the comics.
I'd steer clear of the super popular coffee-shop AU 'Midnight Latte'—it’s fun but flattens them into generic archetypes. 'Glow' preserves the strange, melancholic heart of the source material while letting their dynamic breathe.
Man, tracking down 'Nocturnals' fanfic can be a proper deep dive. Most of the Diego x Ted stuff I've found lives in the sprawling archives of Archive of Our Own—the tagging system is a lifesaver for sorting through their dynamic, whether it's pre- or post-canon. FanFiction.net has an older, smaller cache, some real vintage stuff from like a decade ago if you're into that rougher early fandom feel. The community isn't huge, so Wattpad and Quotev are pretty barren for this specific ship; you might find a stray crossover, but it's rare. Tumblr tags sometimes lead to drabbles or abandoned WIPs.
Honestly, my favorite discovery was on a tiny, nearly defunct Proboards forum dedicated to obscure comic fandoms. Someone had written this gorgeous, melancholy epistolary series set during the 'Black Planet' arc. You really have to dig.
