Oliver Putnam, the delightfully eccentric theater director in 'Only Murders in the Building,' is brought to life by the one and only Martin Short. It's impossible to imagine anyone else nailing that mix of flamboyant charm, razor-sharp wit, and unexpected vulnerability quite like he does. Short’s performance is pure gold—every exaggerated gesture, every perfectly timed one-liner, and even the way he wears those absurdly stylish scarves feels tailor-made for the character. I’ve been a fan of his since his 'Saturday Night Live' days, but this role might be my favorite of his career. He turns Oliver into someone you’d simultaneously want to have brunch with and also gently push into a fountain for being extra.
What’s wild is how seamlessly Short blends Oliver’s larger-than-life persona with moments of genuine heart. One second he’s scheming to fund his next doomed production, the next he’s quietly mourning the loss of his Broadway glory days. The chemistry between him, Steve Martin (as Charles), and Selena Gomez (as Mabel) is electric—their group texts alone deserve an Emmy. If you haven’t seen the show yet, Oliver’s dramatic retelling of his 'Splash: The Musical' failure is worth the price of admission. Short doesn’t just play Oliver; he is Oliver, down to the last melodramatic sigh.

After I join a new company, I keep running into problems—not from people, but from the company's equipment.
The fingerprint scanner fails to recognize me every single time, and I have to submit a manual attendance appeal almost daily.
When I ask the admin to change the device, they respond with thinly veiled sarcasm. "Everyone else clocks in just fine. Why are you the only one with so many issues?"
The air vent above my desk blasts cold air directly at me. My hands and feet are freezing every day.
I ask to switch seats. My manager looks at me like I am making things up. "Everyone else sits there without a problem. How come the AC only blows cold air when you sit there?"
One strange incident after another makes it impossible for me to function at work.
When I get home, I complain to my boyfriend and say I want to quit. He shuts down the thought immediately.
"You're making almost 60 thousand dollars a year before benefits, with weekends off and paid leave. Where are you going to find a job like that?"
I think about it and realize he isn't wrong.
Just as I decide to stick it out, the company elevator malfunctions. I fall from the 33rd floor and die.
In my final moments, I can't understand it—why does every piece of equipment in the company seem to target me alone?
All the devices are newly installed. All my coworkers are people I have just met. I have no grudges with anyone. There's no reason for someone to sabotage me from behind the scenes.
When I open my eyes again, I am back at the company.
It's my very first day on the job.

***This is a spinoff of my first book Couldn't Hide the Feelings. The female leading's brother in that book will be the hero in this new one. Hope you like it. You can also have a try of Couldn't Hide the Feelings, which won't fail you.
By coincidence, Olive lived a life of sharing with her high school classmate Liam, who had been rejected by her.
The two were like two strangers living under the same roof.
A quiet life ended one night.
Olive learned about her recent sleepwalking from Liam.
She was embarrassed and didn't know how to react, "Last night was the first time you saw me sleepwalking, right?"
Liam said, "There was another time."
Olive was silent for two seconds and hesitated to say, "What... what did I do?"
"You suddenly ran out, hugging me."
"?"
Liam raised his eyebrows and added, "And kissed me.”
The sole heiress of a wealthy family, Amanita Wallace, had seven prospective husbands, taken in from childhood to potentially wed her one day.
All of them fulfilled her every wish, except Marcus Channing, who was cold and mean to her.
Due to this, Amanita fell for him and even became his lapdog.
Then, one day, she saw him pin his supposed sister against the wall and confess his feelings to her.
The anticipation for 'Only Murders in the Building' Season 5 is killing me—I love how this show keeps reinventing itself! While the official cast list hasn't been fully confirmed yet, the core trio of Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez is practically guaranteed to return. Their chemistry is the heartbeat of the show, and I can't imagine it without their bickering and sleuthing. Rumor has it we might see more of Meryl Streep's hilarious turn as Loretta Durkin, and Paul Rudd’s chaotic Ben Glenroy could resurface in flashbacks (or... is he really gone?).
What’s got me most excited are the potential new additions. The show’s known for its surprise guest stars—like Shirley MacLaine in Season 3—so I’m crossing my fingers for another legendary cameo. Maybe someone like Catherine O’Hara could pop in as another eccentric neighbor? The writers love weaving in Broadway references too, so don’t be shocked if a theater icon joins the mix. Honestly, half the fun is guessing whodunit before the cast list even drops!
