What Is The Plot Of 'Forced In Diapers'?

'Forced in Diapers' is one of those great plot tropes that are so over the top they’re incredible. There’s nothing like reading about some dignified character such as CEO or a teenager who refuses to grow up to be forced against their will to wear diapers. Blackmail, mind control, alternate realities where diapers are currency – all sorts of scenarios can play out when a character is ‘Forced in Diapers’. The real tension comes from the character trying to come to terms with what’s happened to them, often in a very humorous and often over-the-top situation, but also very emotional and ‘real’.

I read one where it was presented as a nightmare a la Kafka where the protagonist has no idea how he got there and another as a dark sitcom where the villain(s) are extreme in their attempts to enforce diaper laws in this alternate universe where diapers are currency. Many of the stories in this genre deal with extremes but it’s the best of the genre that say something meaningful to us about pretending to be adults.

'Forced in Diapers' is a pretty niche topic, but it has got a great deal of supporters in specific niches. For the most part, the stories are about adults who have been forced into baby-like situations, wearing diapers against their will. They can be quite serious in that they explore themes of humiliation, discuss power relations, and even provide considerable amounts of dark humor and comic relief. The illogical premises make for odd and tension-filled stories but there is a strange underlying similarity to many of our respective emotional nightmares. Most commonly these are the ones where we wake up to find we are going to school in our pajamas, but magnified to an absurd extreme.

Forced in Diapers is a very specific narrative trope. It can be a funny story or a horror story. A knight is turned into a helpless infant by a fantasy curse. A futuristic society uses diapers as population control. As with most very specific tropes, this isn’t exactly mainstream, but it is incredibly creative. I once read a story where the diapers were literal plot devices that leaked secrets instead of, you know, baby stuff.
