Heard Hoopla partners with libraries for ebooks and audiobooks. Does their epub format actually work on a Paperwhite, or is Kindle locking it out?

The Hoopla app is not available to download on Kindle Paperwhite devices, so Hoopla eBooks cannot be read on these devices. However, Hoopla titles can be downloaded to read on phones and tablets where the Hoopla app is available. In the meantime, I can recommend a self-contained series currently available in Kindle format for long reading sessions. Naked Pages, a campus revenge story, is an excellent example. A bullied student meticulously exposes the secrets of his tormentors online. His very methodical revenge is well-structured for a quick, long binge of reading without the need to switch between apps to read a book.

While I love my Kindle Paperwhite for portability, Hoopla books aren’t natively compatible. I’ve tried downloading the Hoopla EPUBs and then converting them to read on my Kindle, but this is a really clunky process and it tends to really mess up the formatting. Instead, for audiobooks and comics, I use Hoopla on my phone or iPad. The app is really great for these types of content. If your library offers it, you might also look into using Libby on your Kindle, as many titles are available to sync to the device. Hoopla is great for instant access, but for now, until they partner with Amazon to make Hoopla books compatible with Kindle, we Kindle users have to find ways to work around this.

I have Kindle Paperwhite (I’m a huge reader and have many devices). The books from Hoopla digital library are designed to read within the Hoopla app or on their website. I was wondering if there were any books that would download directly to my Kindle Paperwhite. As it turns out, Hoopla offers EPUBs that you can download from a computer, remove DRM (where legal) and then load the book onto your Kindle using the USB cable or by emailing it to your Kindle.
Some libraries may prohibit the removal of DRM from e-books, and Hoopla’s collection is designed to be read in their app or on their website. Therefore, Hoopla may not be the best choice for a Kindle user, although Kindle Unlimited and Libby offer compatible reading on the Kindle for certain libraries. Graphic novels and comics also look great on Hoopla-supported tablets, but Hoopla’s collection will not display as nicely on the black and white screen of a Kindle Paperwhite.

From the librarian’s perspective, Hoopla and the Kindle Paperwhite are two distinct entities. Hoopla is a primarily app-based platform that provides streaming of content to tablet, smartphone or desktop. In contrast, Kindle content is Amazon-specific and downloaded to reading devices such as Amazon’s Kindles, which can also read Amazon-purchased books as well as borrow books from libraries through the Libby app. For manga and illustrated books, Hoopla’s colorful titles do not translate well to the e-ink read. While convenient to borrow through Hoopla, the titles are not optimally read on the Kindle Paperwhite.

Unfortunately, Hoopla books do not sync to Kindle Paperwhite. I read Hoopla books on my phone and computer. Hoopla’s app is read on the Paperwhite’s fabulous glare-free black-and-white screen, and contains features like customizable fonts and a night-time reading mode, but these are not available on Kindle. Also, if you’re trying to find a particular title, check if it is available on Libby – often these titles will transfer to your Kindle.

Some people have a good life, some people have a great childhood, well some people have a roof on top of their head. "After a messy break-up, police officer Matthew Haldon is fine living in his cabin out in the woods all by himself. He has his dogs to keep him company and his job to keep him busy.
He never expects to find love again, especially not with the woman he finds stranded on the side of the road during a blizzard. When Matt realizes that Holly Cook has nowhere to go, he invites her to stay at his cabin for the night.
Holly is dangerous, though: with her fiery red hair and her bubbly personality, she tempts Matt like no woman ever has. As the snowstorm rages outside, Matt and Holly share a night that neither will forget.
Yet Holly’s past isn’t about to let her go—and now, neither is Matt.
This title was previously published as Adore Me Ardently. It’s been rereleased with a brand-new look and with lightly edited content."

Welcome to The Alpha’s Smutty Library, a filthy collection of scorching werewolf erotica where the rules are simple: the Alpha takes what he wants, and you’ll be begging him to take more.
These aren’t gentle mates or sweet romances. These are dominant Alphas who knot deep, ruin pretty little things, and leave them shattered and addicted. These are broken, angry, powerful women who swear they’ll never submit… until they’re bent over, dripping, and screaming the Alpha’s name.
Every story is shameless. You’ll find hate-fucking that turns into dangerous obsession, revenge deals sealed with raw public claiming, drunken nights that become one-week contracts of total surrender, and orgasms so intense they’ll wreck you for any lesser man. Every scene is soaked. Every Alpha is feral.
So if you’re tired of polite romance and you’re craving teeth, claws, knots, and filthy dominance… open the book, baby.
Come get wrecked.
The Alpha’s Smutty Library is now open.

Molly absolutely loves Christmas. Candy canes, egg nog, mistletoe, the works. She can't get enough of it. And so it's only natural that she works at the local Christmas store, Christmas Wishes.
But when the Scrooge-like Nicholas comes to town, looking to sell his father's business out from under him, it looks like Molly's dream job is disappearing. Worse yet, she's starting to fall for Nicholas, despite everything telling her not to.
With one last chance to save the store, Molly appeals to the power of Christmas itself, attempting to convert Nicholas to seeing the beauty of the holiday. Can Christmas magic really make Christmas Wishes come true?
Fans of Hallmark Christmas movies will be swept away by Christmas Wishes, a small-town standalone holiday romance with mistletoe and magic. Grab a glass of eggnog, sit by a warm fire, and enjoy!
It’s a complex space, but what’s most fascinating is the fragmentation. There are a number of apps that lend e-books, including Libby, Hoopla, CloudLibrary, and Axis 360. The e-book collections, lending terms, and device support vary widely among them. I remain skeptical that there will be sufficient pressure to standardize or that libraries will ultimately consolidate to a single platform, given the models that are driving them today. In the meantime, we’re all amateur librarians, deciding which apps to use on which devices in a search for a single way to read our books on our preferred screens. It’s a first-world problem, perhaps, but it’s still a problem.
