Where Can I Read Mushoku Tensei Light Novel For Offline Download?

Seven Seas publishes printed copies of Haruaki. For digital copies, J-Novel Club is the official licensor in English. They sell EPUB copies of volumes on their website that I can download. The files are clean with no errors and I just load them up onto my Kobo one at a time. I don’t use apps because then I’m locked into a single platform and I don’t like that. I don’t subscribe to J-Novel Club either, because I wait until a volume is complete and then I buy it. The only legit way to purchase a complete offline copy of Haruaki would be to buy each volume individually, because then you can be sure you have kept a copy of the files permanently. (The fan-translated copies found for download of Haruaki are almost always of the web novel version of the story, which is a different thing altogether.)

I don't really know how to download Mushoku Tensei offline for reading since it is available for official download from the stores of BookWalker and J-Novel Club as DRM-protected EPUBs that can be read with their apps. Although not the most suitable solution for reading offline, this way you can support the creators of the series while reading it offline for as long as you like since it is still ongoing.

I think in general, the quality can vary quite a bit. The chapters might be in completely the wrong order (which I can somewhat deal with), or in the worst case, the fan translation will switch in the middle of a volume to the style of a completely different translation group. As such, I generally tend to avoid reading novel translations outside of official channels, since the quality can be so variable. Just checking file integrity for things like this can be a big hassle.

I just subscribed to J-Novel Club’s membership for a few months in order to read through their app. As a subscriber of their membership, you get early access to prepub translations. But much more importantly, you can download the final polished EPUBs for each volume when they are released. That way, even though my subscription will lapse in a few months, I’ll still have all of the volume 12s and other volumes that were released during my subscription in my library to read offline whenever I want.

But I suppose what I’m getting at is that the J-Novel Club apps are kinda key to reading offline. BookWalker and J-Novel Club both support preloading chapters for offline reading before you head out. I took Mushoku Tensei’s volume 12 with me on a flight last month and read half the thing before I ran out of time. Download chapters offline whilst you’re connected to WiFi, because some of these files are large. Other folks use these books to stockpile light novels on their handsets, and then convert the EPUBs to other file types in order to read them on their other eReaders and stuff. But that’s way too much like hard work for me. My phone’s storage is currently half light novels.

Getting to read things offline is one of the eternal problems of digital books. My solution to this problem is to buy the digital edition of the actual printed volume from places like Amazon Kindle Store, Apple iBookstore or BookWalker and then download them to read offline using the respective apps. BookWalker even has a download button for the books in your library.

For fan translations, most are released in online formats (like HTML) so finding a recent released in clean EPUB format is somewhat difficult these days as many of the old hosters for such material have shut down. Some of the dedicated Discord servers to the work do have channels for distributing downloads, but these are usually locked to only allow members in (and you’d need to get an invite to join). Not as easy as just buying a legitimate copy.
