I read it on my phone. I download it via the Kindle app. I read it in ‘panel view’ (where available) or I zoom in and out manually. I know it’s not supposed to be read like that but most of my comics reading is on the go and I enjoy Silver Surfer very much. The story is so engaging that I don’t even notice the size of the screen anymore.
The ability to carry 6 volumes on a phone is key to reading in short pockets of time. Given the episodic nature of the story, a video-game-like structure to the plot, reading it on a phone in short bursts is very satisfactory with each fight or major scene of the story feeling like clearing a video-game level.

Cost of comics is always a pain, but often Marvel will put up older issues from their Free Comic Book Day archives as well as put up a free issue of a current series as part of the Marvel Unlimited free trial. Comic Extra is another site that posts free comics but I’ve heard that they are often illegal and very slow to download.
My two cents are that you should check the r/comicbooks subreddit to see if anyone has uploaded the comic (legally). And then there are used bookstores where I once found #1 for $5 in a $5 bin. So that’s my two cents.

The Wayback Machine at Archive.org is your friend. If an author had a personal website or space where they published their work, and that site has since been taken down, chances are that the site has been archived by the Wayback Machine. Searching Archive.org for the URL of an author’s past website, or even for the URL of writing communities and forums that the author was once a part of, can lead to surprising results. It’s even possible to find a story posted on a single web page, dug up from the depths of the author’s old website from 2007 and resurrected for your reading pleasure. There’s a lot of guesswork and poking around involved, but it’s all totally worth it.

Riordan is expanding the universe that Percy created and is concentrating more on expanding the pantheon, such as the recent book ‘The Sword of Summer’ which was based off of the Celtic myths. The love letter to the fans who grew up with Percy was ‘The Chalice of the Gods’. The new Disney+ series is also an amazing adaptation of the original books by Riordan.
I’d bet money on Riordan bringing Percy back in some form or another – perhaps as an older adult, or even as a sort of mentor figure for some of the newer heroes. Until then, though, we have all of the graphic novel adaptations, and short crossover stories of every kind to get our fix of all things Riordan. The fandom has never been this good.

The most powerful story in “Somebody Told Me” is about the last diner in a dying town. I sit at the counter and listen to a group of very regular people tell stories to each other about their lives, and somehow, the plate of eggs in front of me becomes a elegy to the passing of an era. He has a very darkly funny piece about the courthouse dog (yes, the dog comforts the crime victims), and I find his witty and compassionate take on the goings-on of very local people perfectly balanced. His portrait of a sharecropper’s daughter, her hands rough from her work in the fields but her voice full of hope for her dreams is heart-wrenching and hopeful. The way he can find the universal in these very hyper-local stories is his magic.

For this comic, I consider Lezhin to be the official host of the fandom, mostly because the comic is posted on Lezhin first, and thus most of the comic’s fan discussions take place in the comments on each chapter on Lezhin, as well as on subreddits/Discord servers dedicated to the comic. If you’re reading the comic officially, you get to read it at the same pace as everyone else, which is great for participating in weekly sessions of guessing and Speculation about upcoming storylines. All that anticipation and discussion between chapters of a modern serialized comic is half the fun, and you wouldn’t get to experience that if you were to read the comic on a pirate site and read it all at once.

I have checked a few of my normal haunts for this and it seems Yonder have it locked down tight. The best way to read this as a legal download would be to sign up for their in-app model and purchase a daily pass to read it. All other claims to download the full novel as a cheaper option are scams. The story is very hot right now, with two possessive twin anti-heroes, so I’d recommend signing up for the app for a bargainous binge read.

What is the official stance of Shueisha (or other companies) towards fan-created comics? I assume they are legal under fair use when used as parody or commentary, but the line gets blurred when a fan writes a completely alternate story. Most fan-created comics are non-commercial, which would likely be the reason they are left alone by big companies. They are extremely fascinating, but also sort of anxiety-provoking to me. I really like ‘I See You’ but I fear that one day a company may send a cease-and-desist and the comic will be taken off of the internet. So, I silently download all of the pages to my computer in case.

Yes, I’m a subscriber, but I’ve never been to their website – I just tap the icon on my phone to open the app. Maybe I’m missing out or something. Oh, and I’ve got a nice monitor, too… So, yes, you’ve convinced me to give it a try another time I’m reading comics and, next time, I’ll start by firing up the browser to see if it makes any difference. Those double-page spreads in ‘Planet Hulk’ will, hopefully, look even better.

Of course, there’s a lot of fun in comparing book to show. But unlike the very faithful first season of television, there are large and soon increasing deviations from the original text as the season goes on. To do this sort of comparison, you’d really need to read the whole, unedited text – something that a free sample would not be able to give you past the introductory setup.
The free sample is like the pilot episode of a show. If you like the pilot, you can then subscribe to the channel to watch the rest of the episodes. There is no way to stream an entire TV show for free on its official network (unless you have a subscription). Bookstores work in much the same way as TV networks – the free sample is your free trial, and then you go to the library or buy the book as a subscriber.
