I'm just here for the drama in the comments. Everyone fighting over which region had the 'best' library is peak nostalgia warfare. The correct answer is obviously the one you grew up with, but that's no fun to argue, is it?

This is my collecting white whale. The differences are massive. Japan got colorful, often more artistic cartridge and box designs, while North America went for the unified purple and gray.

Game content changed drastically sometimes. 'Chrono Trigger' had a slightly different translation and restored cut scenes in Japan. 'Mortal Kombat' was the big one—the SNES version was heavily censored with grey sweat instead of blood, while the Genesis version kept it, which hugely impacted the console war. Finding an uncensored PAL version of anything is a rare hunt.
