The scenes are very realistic and sometimes even a bit too much, like the actual declassified cables from the Yemen prison where Jamal al-Fadl escaped for example. The show does justice to casting as well. Fauda’s Yedidya Gorsetman brings the correct level of desperation to Ammar al-Baluchi in this scene, as he was in real life during his interrogations that were recorded on tapes. I only wish the show continued past the bombing for a number of reasons, including the in-depth look at how Ali Soufan and his team exposed the torture of rebels by our government after 9/11. But as a docudrama it’s near flawless and I can relive the O’Neill scene where he screams about the ‘wall’ three times.

It’s a very Dutch ending, in a way I mean that as a compliment. It’s very pragmatic and matter of fact and it’s very focused on the home and the daily rituals that you do with the people you care about most in order to try and and to make them happy. It’s not something that happens in a public square during a revolution. The revolution happens at home and then the rest of the movie is constructing happiness scene by scene, by the same people. It’s very unsentimental but in a way it’s very romantic. It’s just very practical and that’s what makes it so satisfying in the end. The grand gesture is the lack of a grand gesture. They just choose to stay and build a home together and that’s it.

Thanks for portraying Hades in a positive but stern light. I like that he is a truly opposing force to Orpheus and that he does keep his end of the bargain. But whereas Orpheus embodies chaos, emotion and art, Hades represents order, contracts and harsh reality. It was bound to happen sooner or later, but their collision of two vastly opposing worldviews is what in the end makes for such great storytelling. A force of order wins the day, but not in a boring way. It is a dark, cold and solid reality as Hades is. But, on the other hand, art, expression, human emotion and psyche are not defeated. The loud, passionate and unending song of Orpheus will live on. In the end that’s what I find really sophisticated about this story: it’s not just about good winning against evil or vice versa. It’s just that the world as it is today is better than the world that could have been.

This end is wonderful because it acknowledges the tremendous psychological toll of what Ead, Sabran and Tane went through. Ead is exhausted, physically and magically; Sabran is repressed by the near-destruction of her life and that of her child; Tane is heartbroken by the actions she was forced to commit in Seiiki. It’s cruelly hilarious and devastating all at once. Instead of a neat romantic finale, the ending gives PJ something else: accountability and slow repair. He and the others end up staying at Tender Hearts for a little while, PJ begins going to AA meetings, and then a phone call reveals that Ivy was never vacationing in Alaska but is seriously ill and wants to be married before she dies — which brings everyone back home for one last wedding. The emotional arc finishes on a tone of fragile hope rather than cinematic resolution, and I loved how Hartnett chose compassion and connection over a tidy happy ending.

This extremely funny and action-packed finale gives the fans exactly what they want: great battles, funny moments and Petey growing up a bit. His reluctant progress, especially with the influence of his mini self, is great to read. And the finale’s final panel is a great way to leave the readers happy and satisfied.
