The finale of the ‘Dog Man’ series, ‘For Whom the Ball Rolls’ is a large and overstimulating hug to close out the series. Rather than focusing on any of the other characters, this finale is all about Petey. It’s fascinating to see the grumpiest cat in town struggle with being a father to Lil’ Petey. While the climax is an over-the-top and chaotic action scene that includes all of the Supa Buddies, it is the subsequent scenes of quiet growth and of Petey finally listening to and ‘getting it’ for the first time as a father that are truly powerful. Pilkey does an amazing job of using humor to mask the very real and tough emotions in this scene. The very last scene of the book is also very effective in setting up the next book, without giving too much away.

I adore this new ending for Petey. He’s not a perfect Supa Buddy yet, this book does not end with him all perfect and saved. It just moves him forward in so many ways. And as always the Supa Buddies are a fantastic team in this book. Their Supa Buddy work is as absurd and wacky as ever – here they battle giant robots with disco balls – but I love the little moments of connection, of emotion between all of the Supa Buddies. Like little Petey patiently trying to explain the value of kindness to others, or Dog Man’s silent loyalty to others. So much humor in this book, but so much warmth too. It really does show that even the toughest of characters can change and grow in the most beautiful way.

This extremely funny and action-packed finale gives the fans exactly what they want: great battles, funny moments and Petey growing up a bit. His reluctant progress, especially with the influence of his mini self, is great to read. And the finale’s final panel is a great way to leave the readers happy and satisfied.

The ending of 'For Whom the Ball Rolls' was so emotional, you wouldn't even know it was written by Dav Pilkey. It's a very satisfying ending to the story of Dog Man and his crew, but it's also very good at making you want more. And it accomplishes this while still being really funny, and usually when I read a comic book, I can only pick out a few moments that are really deep and meaningful. But this book has many such moments. Like in the final chapters when Dog Man and his friends face off against Petey, and how his villainous ways are slowly uncovered by the pop culture references and jokes that usually make up his evil behavior. But in the end, his complicated relationship with Lil’ Petey is what really makes him start to question his actions. And the depth of how he eventually does come around is really heartwarming, making it another ‘chef’s kiss’ moment for this reader.

I loved Lil’ Petey in this story. He is so kind and it is the reason for everything. Dog Man and Petey have the best dynamic. Chef’s kiss. And I absolutely loved the twist with the ball at the end of the book. As with all Dog Man books, it is very silly on the surface but is also very profound. I have re-read the last few chapters so many times. Every time I read them they still make me feel.

Just when you think Dog Man is in absolute chaos, heart will be won. Dog Man battles against Petey’s plan in this book, but it’s really Lil’ Petey that is the star of this volume. His innocence and optimism are so amazing in comparison to the cynical Petey. And in typical Way restricted imagination fashion, a ball can become a very loony yet profound metaphor for all that is happening. The last page of the book is just wonderful.

Hadestown ending explained: what happens at the end?

Thanks for portraying Hades in a positive but stern light. I like that he is a truly opposing force to Orpheus and that he does keep his end of the bargain. But whereas Orpheus embodies chaos, emotion and art, Hades represents order, contracts and harsh reality. It was bound to happen sooner or later, but their collision of two vastly opposing worldviews is what in the end makes for such great storytelling. A force of order wins the day, but not in a boring way. It is a dark, cold and solid reality as Hades is. But, on the other hand, art, expression, human emotion and psyche are not defeated. The loud, passionate and unending song of Orpheus will live on. In the end that’s what I find really sophisticated about this story: it’s not just about good winning against evil or vice versa. It’s just that the world as it is today is better than the world that could have been.

What happens at the end of The Ballad of Falling Dragons?

The ending of The Golem and the Jinni is comparable to the ending of another fantastic work of literature, The Last Unicorn, or even The Dark Tower series. All of these works are marked by a sense of cyclical completion, with ambiguous transformation at their core. If you’re a fan of those works, you’ll probably appreciate this one too. But if you detest those works, then you’ll probably detest this one as well. Not every ending is for every reader, after all. This one demands a lot from its readers: they have to be willing to fill in blanks, to sit with uncertainty, and to appreciate a work largely through mood rather than by resolution of plot points. In short, this ending is a litmus test of your reading preferences.

How does The Round Tower end?

An underappreciated function of a minor character at the end of the book is that of the housekeeper or friend who acts as a confidante from time to time. Often the housekeeper or friend of a protagonist who has been isolated by a spouse gives them a nod of recognition or assists in a tiny way. It illustrates that Vanessa has people on her side, that her reading of events is correct. A silent group of friends and helpers from outside the social bubble of Andrew and his friends are pulling for her. This counteracts the isolation that Andrew attempted to impose upon her and, in a large public scandal, indicates that it is private humanity that is rallying to her side. The tiny hand squeeze, the packed lunch left in her bag, and such like details remind the reader that while her new life is a complete unknown, it is also possible that she will find more real human connection in her life outside of her dysfunctional marriage than she had in her earlier life.

What happens at the end of A Boy and His Dog at the End of the World?

This ending was also interpreted through an ecological perspective by the DVD commenters. Brando is a representation of a controlling and failed ecological mindset in trying to dominate nature after the collapse. His base is a sterile, out-of-context and unnatural space. Griz and Jip are components of the wild and dysfunctional nature. Their bond is natural and is developed within the context of their shared struggle to survive. By leaving Brando’s base, they are returning to nature even in its worst state of collapse. The continued journey of the boy and the dog is that of rewilding. The movie is expressing the hope that there will be life after the collapse, and it will not be a return to old ways of ecological domination and control but rather an adaptation to the new and an embracing of the natural, symbiotic and adaptive relationships that will emerge from the collapse.

What happens in the ending of 'That's Not How You Do It'?

I was SOOOO disappointed at the end of this book. The big question of the story was "Who is the Serpent's Shadow?" and there were many suspects. But in the end, after lots of red herrings and lots of intrigue and politics, it was simply a big, bad, sentient shadow. This shadow had no previous personality, no previous motivation. It was simply created by the main character’s magic and then destroyed by a combined light spell by the heroes of the story. And that was it. The end of the story. The kingdom was saved. And that was it. It was technically an ending to the story but it had no depth. No meaning. No surprises. Very disappointing for such a clever book.

How does 'The Perfect Spiral' end?

The greatest thing about the ending of Nexus is the silence. For pages and pages, the story has been a cacophony of cosmic sounds. But in the huge, quiet panels of the final chapters, the characters are shown to be working, walking, smiling – they simply exist. The story trusts the reader to realize how significant this is, and how it contrasts with the rest of the book. Silence is more powerful than any speech about the joys of peace, because it allows the reader to project whatever feelings they have – relief, boredom, contemplation – onto the characters. It’s immersive and participatory, allowing the reader to decide for themselves what peace is like, and whether it’s good or not.

What happens at the end of 'An Echo of Things to Come'?

It was a pleasure closing out the story of “An Echo of Things to Come”. So many time constraints, Taeris’s tragic sacrifice, and an uncanny look into the ancient Wells, bringing together past and present. Most compelling was Caeden, struggling to find himself within the man he has become. The depth of anguish of his forgotten self was rendered with aching lucidity. I loved the epilogue. I had no idea where Islington was going with this, and in the end it was a fantastic gut punch. The true scale of the enemy has been hinted at all along, but this gives us a sense of just how hard a time our heroes will have to just survive as they try to save Andarra. I love how Islington trusts his readers to connect the dots here. I am planning on a re-read of this very soon in order to catch all of the foreshadowing that I missed the first time.

What happens at the end of Unworld?

What made this powerful for me was the goodbye. The main character has to leave behind another character from Unworld who cannot survive outside of it. They don’t have some dramatic or even tearful goodbyes. Rather, they share a final meal with the companion to a crystal lake. It is silent. The companion hands the main character a smooth warm stone, a heartstone the main character carries with him. The rest of the book follows the companion’s life in Unworld, tending a den of young of his kind, looking up at the stars, on occasion running his finger over the space where the heartstone had been. It was a powerful end to the stories of both the main character and companion, a poignant reminder that every journey leaves behind a trail of characters in other stories, continuing on in their own ways. It was a uniquely powerful way to end the book, rather than some sort of grand finale.

What happens at the end of The Sandlot?

The end of 'The Sandlot' is incredibly fun. Benny's jump over the fence to retrieve 'The Sandlot' baseball is amazing and the way 'The Beast' is revealed is humorous and heart warming. Getting to see adult Scotty Smalls look back on the summer of 'The Sandlot' and relive it makes the movie even more nostalgic. The way the movie looks back on the childhood summer of 'The Sandlot' brings back memories of friendship, baseball and fun for viewers long after the movie is over.

How does 'In Perpetuity' end?

4 Answers2025-12-03
The ending of 'In Perpetuity' successfully managed to provide closure for the story whilst keeping a lot of aspects open to interpretation. Instead of trying to break the time loop for good the protagonist redefined it in a meaningful way for himself in the last scenes. Lots of the last scenes were very still and potent. It’s a brilliant ending that leaves a lasting impression on the reader making you re-read the whole story with new found insight.
