While there is no sequel to ‘Bad Mormon’ yet, I’ll keep an eye on the author’s social media for now. Since memoirs are rarely continued in the form of sequels, I wouldn’t mind returning to this world, which is presented in the form of part-confessional and part-dark comedy. The author deals with heavy topics, and they are funny. It’s not an easy thing to do. Until then, I’ll just keep recommending this remarkable and funny book to everyone who will get punched in the feels reading it, but will also laugh.

The book deals with complex issues of faith, identity and growth. I’d love for the author to return to this story, whether as a full length sequel or even just a deeper exploration of parts left unscathed. Memoirs lend themselves to being left off at any point in a protagonist’s life, and are therefore often left open to return to the subject at a later date.

In the meantime, I’ve been recommending a couple of other books about personal transformation such as ‘Educated’ by Tara Westover and ‘Unorthodox’ by Deborah Feldman to friends who loved ‘Bad Mormon’. I really hope this author writes another book. The author balanced humor and heartache really well in ‘Bad Mormon’ and I feel like I need to read more from this author.

I wouldn't count on a sequel to "Bad Mormon," though I wouldn’t complain either. It seems to me that "Bad Mormon" is a complete work by its author to tell her own personal story, and leave it there. Sometimes things are just better to leave open than to spell out a continuation.

But if the author did go on to write a sequel to this memoir, I would read it in a heartbeat. Until then, though, I shall continue to reread the parts of the book that I enjoyed the most and then proceed to pick apart it in book club. Such an amazing and original memoir needs to be savored, but also can benefit from surprise follow-up stories by the author.

From a purely business standpoint, it would be quite easy for another author to write a sequel to this book. The title is made of pure gold and has generated a lot of interest on social book communities recently. Perhaps there are some right's issues going on or the author of this book has fallen out with their publisher. Or maybe, just maybe, this author is quietly working away on the sequel and then plans to disappear from the face of the earth. In the current market, not milking a successful IP for all it's worth is almost unusual. I shall keep an eye out for it, but for now, I won't be scheduling any reading time around it. The silence is rather deafening.

And the title of the book implies a sequel. ‘Too Hot at the Backseat’ is a journey to some end point. The backseat of the car is a transition point between passenger and driver. So, a sequel to this would logically be ‘Just Right at the Destination’ or ‘A Chill in the Driver’s Seat’. I admit I was playing with the title of the book, but the implication is clear – the author is setting up a narrative promise that isn’t being fulfilled in this book. The structure of the book reads like the first act of a larger saga. We don’t get to learn more about the protagonist’s power in this book. We get the origin story for the protagonist’s power, and then the story ends with a big curtain fall. It’s the worst kind of ending for a superhero-adjacent story.

I was on the edge of my seat screaming at the TV for them to run! But that would’ve gotten them killed. The scene was so brilliant in that it helped the viewer understand what the viewer of the TV show was going through and why it was so bad. It would’ve been suicide for them to run, so the viewer is stuck suffering through the slow crawl with them. It’s a great shared experience of terror. Incredibly tense. You feel every second of them slowly crawling through the dirt. Instead of having a typical car chase in most shows, BB gives you a much more intense experience of two men in the dirt, slow crawling and it’s so much more intense than a typical car chase would be.

None of the other KittyHorrorShow games are direct sequels, but they do all seem to be part of the same general web of twisted family members. “The Hysterical House of Holes” is a good example of this — it uses some of the same imagery and and makes for a far more surreal experience than straight up horror. But while “Anatomy” does up the ante on the sense of claustrophobia present in the original, I sort of wish there were no official sequels to this game at all. As it stands, the original feels like a very forbidden artifact.

This book is 100% flip from what I described above. ‘Bad Bishop’ by Layla Reyne is a really sweet M/M romance that follows two FBI agents, Levi Bishop and Emmitt (Marsh) Marshall, as they navigate a marriage of convenience that slowly becomes real. Levi is trying to solve the mystery of his boss’ framing and take care of his son, and Marsh is trying to protect his loved ones from a long-standing threat to them. Throughout the book the two men are pictured as partners – both on the job and off. It was really great to see Levi’s son and family add to the story and give Levi even more reason to work to clear his name. There were so many action packed and suspenseful moments in this book, but it was also really sweet and had a lot of emotional payoff for the two leads. Their chemistry wasn’t instant, but it was really wonderful to read once it was developed and grew from both men showing mutual care and respect to each other as they slowly took down walls one by one. I loved reading this pair so much in this book, and I know you will too. So grab a copy of ‘Bad Bishop’ by Layla Reyne to read a lot of protectiveness, lots of twists and turns as they investigate and solve the mystery, and lots of really sweet emotional moments between the two men as they fall in love.

This honesty was kind of amazing. This protagonist does not get better. He does not find love. There is no cure for his thoughts or any of that. He just stops having them at some point. The last few entries of the diary are kind of light read. Not because everything is okay with the protagonist. Just because he has stopped pretending to have all the answers to everything. The last line of the book is something like “I’m tired of fighting myself.” Not the kind of line that would leave you feeling triumphant or something. But real. And kind of wonderful.

No. ‘Mort’ is a single work. However, Mort and Death both appear in ‘Reaper Man’ which explores Death in greater depth than ‘Mort’. Although ‘Reaper Man’ is not a direct sequel to ‘Mort’, it does return to the same world and characters, and hence is recommended to fans of ‘Mort’ for more Pratchett wit and insight.

If you’re looking for more books of a similar nature to Fitzpatrick’s work, then the read-alike lists on Goodreads are pure gold! ‘The Summer I Turned Pretty’ and ‘Along for the Ride’ by by Jenny Han and Sarah Dessen respectively are excellent choices as are ‘Since You’ve Been Gone’ and the rest of the Monty Leo series by Morgan Matson. Whilst nothing can quite compare to the unique voice of Huntley Fitzpatrick, I hope these recommendations will help to fill the void left by the two connected novels by this incredible author.

Ever since I managed to get my hands on my old CD for “Heretic” I’ve been doing some reading up on the game’s legacy. The sequels to “Heretic” are “Hexen: Beyond Heretic” and “Hexen II” and essentially they are darker, meatier versions of the original with much more lore to the world of the game as well as much more difficult and creepy bosses. There’s also “Heretic II” which is an oddball third-person Isometric POV game that even to this day causes a large divide in the fans of the series. My personal favorite in the Heretic-series of games is “Hexen” due to the very dark, very twisted and very, very long and winding levels that snaked about in very unique and moody ways. I wish Raven Software would make a new game set in this very dark world.
