A hidden gem on Scribblehub is 'Speedrunning the Multiverse'. A former god-king is reborn into a lowly body in a cultivation world with a system. He uses his cosmic knowledge to speedrun the local power structure, treating the system's quests and rewards as mere stepping stones. The fun is in his utter boredom with the 'grind' and his meta-commentary on the predictable nature of these system worlds.

The isekai manga 'The Wrong Way to Use Healing Magic' is a great twist. The protagonist is summoned as a healer, but the heroes discard him. He's picked up by a knight order and put through a brutally innovative training regimen that treats healing magic like a muscle to be overworked. His 'leveling' is a montage of physical and magical torture that turns a support class into an unstoppable endurance monster. The system is standard, but the application is wildly creative.

I prefer the ones where the system is an ancient, mysterious artifact, not just a given. Like in 'Mother of Learning', the time loop isn't a system per se, but it's a rule-based magical phenomenon Zorian has to reverse-engineer through experimentation. His 'progress' is measured in knowledge, allies saved, and spells mastered across restarts. It’s the ultimate slow-burn grind, and every discovery feels earned.

Re:Zero's 'Return by Death' isn't a leveling system, but it functions like a brutal save-point mechanism in a game. Subaru has to 'grind' through scenarios via trial and error, learning patterns and dialogue triggers. The emotional and psychological toll is the 'XP' cost. It’s one of the most harrowing takes on a game-like mechanic in any medium, because the penalty for failure is so visceral.

Why does everyone go for the combat classes? I love finding stories where the protagonist picks a 'non-combat' or 'support' class and breaks the world with it. An alchemist who poisons continents. A farmer whose crops alter the world's mana. A bard whose songs rewrite reality. The system framework allows for these specializations to have concrete, levelable effects. It celebrates lateral thinking over brute force.

The top businesswoman and national socialite Feng Yan died at the hands of her own sister. She thought this would be the end of her, but it seems the god doesn’t want her to die in vain.
Unexpectedly, she transmigrated in a novel world with a lame-childish-unreliable (omitted 100 abusive words…) system. Only to find that she a cannon fodder set up so small that her existence is just to show off the female leads kindness-naivety etc.
The original owner of the body was also called Feng Yan, with a completely different life. She and her brother were kidnapped and sold by traffickers in a poor village, while she was only 7 years old.
When the Feng family finally found her, she was already 18 years old. Her father accused her of not dying outside and her twin sister said “A poor village bitch like you is not qualified to even hold my shoe; you want to be my sister”.
While her fiancée who she dated for four years said “Sorry, Feng Yun. I always liked your sister, you will find a better person than me but you’re can’t live without me. Let’s break up”.
Seeing this white lotus bitch female lead + a scumbag, Feng Yun could only say “A bitch and her dog, such a perfect couple”.
It was said that the top actress Feng Yan has a gorgeous smile and is a total face control. Watch Feng Yun and her system taking revenge destroying the plot, while being chased.
Feng Yun says to her system “Hey, didn’t you say the villain’s an old man with a potbelly. Why the hell is that I see this XXX handsome man chasing me, and why is he so sticky? Shouldn’t he be behind the female lead now? You give me away”.
I caught my fiancé and the fake heiress in the act.
They didn’t show an ounce of guilt; the heiress even laughed at me, full of mockery.
“What I have isn’t just this,” she said. “Last year, I was bound to the Score-Boosting System. No matter what score you got on the SAT, I was always a little higher. Didn’t you notice?”
“Natalie,” Vivian sneered, “as long as I’m around, you’ll never get ahead of me!”
Anger surged through me. I wanted to take them down with me, but then a gas explosion struck, and the three of us were reborn at the same moment.
I was welcomed back into the Sullivan family. Grandpa Sullivan declared that whoever became the SAT champion would inherit the family fortune.
The fake heiress boasted proudly, “Natalie, don’t even try. You’ll always be my stepping stone!”
I smiled.
“If you’re always a little ahead of me, fine. I’ll just set the highest score in history.”
Feng Shaotian was a simple guy who desires nothing but peace. Even though his life wasn't that great after the death of his parents. The only comfort he got was the existence of his loyal dog, Ding Bang.
He tried to take his life by jumping on the highest bridge in their place but Ding Bang stopped him. As long as he tried to commit suicide, Ding Bang was always there to stop him. Out of sympathy to his dog, he decided to stop commiting suicidal acts.
Unfortunately, it wasn't enough. He found no purpose in living, everything felt empty as if something was missing. One day, he finally decided to do something he kept on hold for months for his dog's sake.
Suicide...
But it was wishful thinking, just as he laid in his bed for his last sleep. A phenomenon happens that change his life.
Something magical that only happens in novels. A transmigration to another world. But what will he do when he found out that this place is full of bloody fights? A place where the strong preys the weak.
Will the peace lover from earth be able to survive this insane place? Or die like a mob in wilderness?
Honestly, 'The Primal Hunter' does this really well. Jake's entire schtick is using a bow and alchemy, and the system meticulously tracks his archery-related skills, perception, and alchemical recipes. The tutorial arc is a masterclass in using a limited system to create tension and creativity. I love how his class evolves based on his choices, leading to a truly unique build. The stat sheets are frequent and detailed, satisfying that number-crunching itch. The protagonist is a bit of a lone wolf, but if you can vibe with that, the progression is super satisfying.
The audiobook versions of some of these are a trip. Hearing a narrator calmly list out 'Ding! Strength has increased by 0.1!' every few minutes is a unique experience. It either adds to the gamified feel or becomes completely ridiculous. No in-between.
