Man, this thread is making me realize how privileged I am to read mostly in English. The ecosystem is just so seamless. It's a good reminder that for many readers, accessing a simple ebook in their preferred language is a whole project. Kudos to you for putting in the effort to do it the right way and support the creators.

Price-checking is a habit. I wanted the audiobook but didn't want to use an Audible credit. I checked Libro.fm, Audiobooks.com, and even iTunes. It was $13.99 everywhere. Then I checked my library's Hoopla—free, no wait. That was the winner.
Moral of the story: always check Hoopla if your library has it before you spend money. It saved me $14. The experience was identical to purchasing it. The file played flawlessly in their app. For popular but not brand-new titles like this, Hoopla is a goldmine. It's my first stop now for any audiobook.

Coelho's own website or social media might have links to authorized publishers for different languages. Authors' official sites sometimes maintain a list of international editions. It's a long shot, but a quick check could provide the name of the official Urdu publisher, which is a crucial piece of information.
With the publisher's name, you can contact them directly to inquire about purchasing a copy or finding a local retailer. It cuts out the guesswork.

Following up on the periodical idea, 'Shama' and 'Biswin Sadi' were hugely popular digest magazines that started pre-partition and featured prolific writers. Their back issues are collector's items.
I've seen YouTube channels where people slowly flip through and display entire issues. It's not a searchable PDF, but if you know a story was published in, say, 'Shama' in 1940, you might find that specific issue being shown in a video. A creative, if tedious, workaround.

Oh, the number of times my Nani has asked me for this! She heard about the book from a drama and desperately wanted to read it. I searched every major online bookstore in Pakistan and even asked relatives to check physical stores in Lahore and Karachi. Nothing official ever turned up. I ended up reading the English version out loud to her, translating on the fly. It was a fun experience, but it confirmed for me that an authorized translation isn't out there. The market seems ripe for it, honestly.

Does anyone else find the multiple audiobook narrations intriguing? I'd love to hear a comparison before picking one.

I'm skeptical about the audio quality you'll find. Most of these are home-recorded, maybe with a decent microphone at best. If you're sensitive to background hum or inconsistent volume, it might be a frustrating listen. That said, the sheer availability is a gift. I'd say temper your expectations on production value and focus on the accessibility of the story itself in a beloved language.

Google Play Books and Apple Books often let you preview a significant chunk of the book for free—sometimes the first few chapters. If you just need to get started on reading while you figure out a more permanent solution, that's a decent stopgap.
You won't get the whole thing, but it can get you through the first assignment or discussion post. The previews are high-quality and legit, straight from the publisher.

Thinking about global accessibility again. For readers in countries without these library apps, the options are grim. They might rely on PDFs shared among friends or questionable sites.
It's a reminder of the digital divide. The 'platform' for a free copy might literally be a USB drive passed from person to person. That's a very different reality from the Libby conversation.

I just grabbed it on my Kobo last month. Easy. Went to the Kobo store, searched, bought, downloaded. Took two minutes. It's the HarperCollins edition. So yes, very much available. The experience was seamless.
