I'm just picturing the marketing meetings at Balzer + Bray after the initial buzz. They must have been printing new runs every other week. Keeping up with that demand is a good problem to have. Must have been a wild ride for everyone involved.

I always get my years mixed up. Was 'Children of Blood and Bone' 2017 or 2018? That was another huge one. If it was 2018, then yeah, 2017 was definitely Angie Thomas's year. The hype for Tomi Adeyemi's book was building at the end of 2017, though.

Do bestseller lists even matter? It was probably some dystopian romance with a love triangle that got big because of a film deal. I'd rather know which book actually had a cultural impact that year, not just which one sold the most copies in Target. The whole ranking thing feels a bit corporate to me.

How do classic novels rank among best selling books of all time in India?

Can we talk about used book markets? The resale circulation of classics in places like College Street in Kolkata or the footpaths of Delhi is immense. These sales aren't tracked in official 'bestseller' lists, but they represent a huge volume of transactions that keep these books in active readership. This underground economy significantly extends the life and reach of a classic novel, contributing to its de facto 'best-selling' status in terms of copies in readers' hands, if not in publisher revenue.

Which best selling book of 2017 dominated the fantasy genre?

Does fanfiction count as a metric? The explosion of Stormlight Archive fanfic, especially after 'Oathbringer' provided so much new backstory and character depth, was noticeable. Archive of Our Our, fanfiction.net, the dedicated forums—they were flooded with new works exploring 'what if' scenarios and missing moments. A book's dominance isn't just measured in sales but in the creative energy it inspires in its readers. The sheer volume of derivative creative work it generated is a testament to how deeply it engaged people, motivating them to spend their own time writing in that universe. That's a level of fandom penetration that few books ever achieve.

Which popular books topped YA bestseller lists this year?

Lots of YA bestseller lists I followed this year clustered around a few big trends: emotionally sharp contemporaries, fantasy sequels with massive fandoms, and older titles rediscovering traction because of TV or TikTok. From what I’ve been keeping an eye on, titles that repeatedly showed up at the top were 'They Both Die at the End' by Adam Silvera, 'A Good Girl's Guide to Murder' by Holly Jackson, and 'Six of Crows' by Leigh Bardugo — those three keep bouncing back because of serial adaptations and BookTok love. On the fantasy side, newer sequels and companion novels heated up lists: think heavy-hitting series entries and spinoffs that fandoms sprint to pre-order. I also saw 'Heartstopper' by Alice Oseman and 'Cemetery Boys' by Aiden Thomas remain staples on YA lists thanks to the TV buzz and school library circulation. If you want the current snapshot, NYT Young Adult lists, IndieBound, and Amazon Young Adult bestsellers are where those names keep showing up most consistently; they’ll give the day-to-day ranking shifts that change after big reviews or show drops.
