Amber told of how Isis had sent her out during the storm to search for a bowl. She described falling into the river, waking on a remote shore in the forest, and surviving with the help of a kind hunter who pointed her homeward.
The story was accepted—at least officially. But it stirred enough concern for the King to summon Isis for questioning.
Amber and Isis now stood before the King, Queen, Arnold, and a quiet but ever-watchful Rhea.
“She lies,” Isis said softly, her voice cracking. “But I’m overjoyed that she’s alive. Truly, I forgive her from the depths of my heart. I’ve always seen her as a daughter. I harbor no resentment.”
