George was across from her, flipping through a folder. They weren’t smiling. They weren’t whispering. They were just… working. Like two people on the same mission. I hated how much sense they made together. At one point, George leaned over to show her something on the page. She didn’t flinch. Didn’t pull back. Just leaned in too, reading closely. It shouldn’t have hurt. It wasn’t romantic. But it did. Because once, that used to be me. Once, I was the one she leaned toward.

Beth lets out a sharp, breathless gasp, finally gathering enough oxygen to speak, her voice trembling violently as she looks between me and Julie. ”A... a werewolf? You? Aiden? Highly specialized in compulsion-breaking rituals, seems like Ethan's going to be around longer than he thinks." George came back out, closing the door behind him. Charles smirked. "Here is the library," Shrey said, breaking George's reverie; he was immersed in her eyes as he waited for her to blink her eyes open. "I mean, look back, this is our library." This time, it was George who avoided eye contact by using his phone.

As she watched him eat, her mind drifted over to James Scott, his stepbrother. She had not seen him recently, she wondered if he was doing okay. It suddenly occurred to her that she had never heard George talk about him, not even for once.

I hugged her, a simple yet comforting hug. "I got myself into this situation, and you're coming again to clean my mess.
