The Ex-Change

“Yeah, strange, right? It’s like the whole place is dead.”
We both pause awkwardly for a moment, each unsure how to continue this unexpected exchange in the dimly lit stairwell.
“Yeah,” he continues, “I was just stepping out of my apartment to figure out what went down. Looks like we’re both in the same boat.”
I squint at him, trying to place his face. Then it hits me. “Wait, you’re…my Neighbour, right?”
He nods, surprised. “Yeah, that’s me. How did you know?”
