Alima POV I was tired of thinking. I was tired of hoping that everything would get back to normal–no. Nothing was ever going to get back to normal. And I've got just five hours left to decide whether or not I'll serve the Alpha King or rather still, leave the pack.

Elias screamed: “NO—DON’T TOUCH THEM—!” Z-03 stepped forward, blocking the strike. Alexander pulled Lena closer. Z-04 turned toward the Alpha. Jay convulsed again, glowing violently. And the Alpha said something that froze every living thing in place: “The heart awakens. And the vessel follows. Together… they will complete me.” Alexander snapped. He didn’t hesitate. He didn’t think. He stood up— still holding Lena— and walked straight toward the Alpha. Elias shouted: “ALEX—WHAT ARE YOU DOING—ARE YOU INSANE?!”

Scott interjected, his tone firm but calm. “I thought you were on my side?” Scott chuckled lightly, a rare display of humor from someone usually so composed and silent. “I’m always on your side, Alpha, but part of my duty is to keep you grounded. This isn’t a battle where brute strength wins; it’s a negotiation, and respect is the strongest weapon you have. FireHeart packs are known for their strength and resilience. The fact that they have a female Alpha now only speaks volumes of her capabilities. We have to be careful.”

Alethea I know Alpha Asher doesn’t want me, and seeing me in this vulnerable state, and doing nothing, it feels like a blow to my back. I just want him to help with the burning sensation coursing through me, to quench it, to make it stop. I know he has a Luna, and part of me wants to scream at the unfairness. But fuck, I’m his mate! This mate bond is driving me wild, and no matter how much I try to fight it, I can’t.

"That doesn't sound like Fire Blood. Hey, I don't think this is a good sign. Is there going to be a war?" Suddenly Wilson interjected, "There won't be an attack. You know how Mr. Liam and Alpha Troy are." Alpha Troy was the Alpha of Fire Blood, a man of enormous stature, his body full of hair especially on the chest, and his skin always seemed to be covered with dust. "Yeah, you're right, Wilson," a member responded. "Then why did he come all of a sudden?"

He looked at his hands, watching a spark of golden electricity jump between his thumb and forefinger, scorching a tiny black mark into the carpet. "Mommy is scared," Leo murmured, his brow furrowing with an ancient, terrifying wisdom. "And the Alpha smells like he’s made of ash. They’re going to the fire mountain... and they aren't going to bring me." Leo clenched his fists, the air in the hallway turning cold—the scent of Permafrost and Milk clashing with the lingering Sulfur from the office.

The crowd made way for me, and I looked at my beautiful mate who hadn’t even stirred through this commotion. “You can’t do this to me!” She then shouted, and I heard shuffling. I turned around in time to see Beta Rodney holding his daughter in his arms, and trying to soothe her somewhat. “I didn’t do all this to lose to Yuri freaking Jones!” Aurora growled, even as tears of frustration followed her statement. “She’s a nobody, Leo. You’ll regret this. You’ll regret this dearly.” “It’s Alpha Leo to you,” I responded calmly and then walked resolutely away, letting her father deal with her, but not before instructing Jackson via mindlink to investigate the fire incident thoroughly.

I whispered, the words lost to the fire. ​I jumped. I did not jump toward the enemy, but toward the heart of the storm. I reached out with my scorched hand, the silver core glowing like a beacon in the gold. I felt the heat begin to melt my fur, felt the pressure trying to push me back, but I did not stop. I was the Alpha of the North, and I would not let my Queen burn. ​The moment my hand touched the edge of her aura, the world turned white. There was no sound, no heat, no pain. There was only the feeling of her hand finding mine in the dark.

As the crystal pulsed in my palm, I pricked my finger with a tiny silver needle I had hidden in my sleeve. A drop of blood landed on the crystal, and dark smoke came from its surface. The connection opened immediately, and I smiled. At last. “It’s me,” I whispered. “The Fireheart has awakened.” The crystal glowed brighter. After two minutes, dark letters slowly appeared across its surface and formed one word, a letter at a time. I KNOW. A chill ran down my spine. Even after all these weeks, communicating with him still terrified me. He was so powerful. “The Alpha’s curse is becoming weaker because of her. She’s helping him.”
