The rest of the group settled into the long couch.
Across the room, over the fireplace, hung a large oil painting of a beautiful woman opening a pottery jar. Creatures of all kinds flew out of it, butterflies, bees, birds, dogs, and other animals. The painting reminded me of the Greek story Dr. Frankler told me, about Pandora releasing evil on the world, about hope being the last thing to come out of the jar. This was the third reminder of that myth and it made me uncomfortable because I was beginning to feel that everyone thought I was that "hope" even though I didn't feel that way.
