Leon's arm shot out in front of me in an instant, his palm bracing steady against the small of my back to pull me close, sheer menace rolling off him, and the Thorne guards behind him drew as one, a dozen muzzles trained on Karina.
"Put the gun down." Leon's voice was low, without a ripple in it, yet it carried a menace that brooked no argument.
"I won't!"
Karina had gone completely mad, her finger tightening slightly on the trigger. "She destroyed everything I had. She's going down with me!"
The sudden turn threw the whole hall into an uproar.
"Nobody move!" Karina had wrenched the pistol free and gripped it hard in both hands, its muzzle aimed straight at my forehead.
