SHE’S MINE!” “SHE BELONGS TO ME!” Pascha charged. They tumbled across the floor, crashing into steel racks, knocking over ancient crates that screamed on contact. Metal rained down on them. But they didn’t stop. I saw blood on Pascha’s hands. Ben’s temple cut wide open. Neither one slowing.

Beatrice held the baby tightly in her arms, making sure she would not slip from her hand. “HAHAHAHAHAHA! THE TIME HAS FINALLY COME FOR ME TO DEFEAT YOU!” the woman shouted. The woman then launched another attack, this time striking Beatrice in the stomach. “AAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!” Once again, Medeline was overpowered. Beaterice’s body was sent flying and crashed into a tree, causing her to cough up blood. Beatrice knew that surviving such an attack would be extremely difficult.

I lifted him easily, his boots scraping against the stone floor before leaving it entirely. His hands went to mine instantly, clawing and pulling at my grip, but I did not loosen. His face reddened as he struggled to speak. “I… did not…” he choked out. His fingers pushed at my wrist, but my grip was unyielding. I tightened my hold, my eyes never leaving his. Memories surged through me, violent and unbidden. Beatrice’s face, twisted in that demonic snarl. The trail of corpses she had left behind the last time she had been free. Her parents, lifeless and pale, blood drained, eyes wide in horror. She had not hesitated then. She would not hesitate now.

The coppery smell of blood floods my senses the moment we walk in. Liam freezes behind me as our presence goes completely ignored by Dr. Sari and Billy. Billy works diligently with a small squeeze bottle spraying the back of Beatrice’s head, soaking the once clumpy red hairs in a sudsy liquid solution. The solution the sprays on clear drips down from the side of the table in little pink splatters of water onto the musty white carpet, rendering the area around Billy’s feet completely pink and wet.
