I need to motivate myself so that everyone can see that I am capable of standing on my own… but first, I need to take a bath because it is extremely hot and I am completely sweaty. Thalia, still standing. And she moves. One step. Then another. Thalia lifts the dagger again, but I see the fear finally crack her mask. She tries to say something—something clever or pleading—but it’s too late. Beatrice’s hands are claws before I even blink. She slashes once. Quick. Precise. Thalia gasps, then crumples. Her mouth opens, but no sound comes out. Her knees hit the ground. Then her face. Beatrice walks right past her. Straight to me.

Bastetia stays here so I suggest you come up with something that is desirable to you as payment.” Basille glared down at the sobbing pleading pathetic form of Scott. “Shut up, you pathetic ape!” Basille swung his sceptre at his head, colliding with his skull in a sickening crunch and crack and sending Scott crumpling to the floor, either dead or unconscious, no one could tell except for the blood that started to pool under his head.

Beatrice's heart raced as she met his intense gaze, realisation dawning on her that the confrontation was far from over. "She's already been whipped today," he snarled. "The plan is not to kill her." "I don't care!" Beatrice screamed, her voice a frenzied shriek that echoed off the cold stone walls, her eyes wild with a manic intensity as she struggled against his unyielding grip. "I want her dead! I'll do anything, anything at all! Let me go! I need to see her suffer!" Her breath came in ragged gasps, each word laced with a desperate fury that bordered on madness, revealing the depths of her obsession.

I yelled. Silas turned his head slightly, his violet eyes locking onto mine. He didn’t look threatened. He looked at me the way a man looks at an insect on his windshield. “The baseline,” Silas said, his voice a perfect, terrifying harmony. “The one who thinks he can protect a goddess with a piece of lead.” He flicked his wrist, and a wave of sound hit me like a physical blow. I was thrown back against the wall, my rifle spinning out of my hand. I felt my ribs snap, the pain white and blinding.

Rage bubbled up in my chest, threatening to explode through me especially when Caesar burst into laughter. “Oh you should see the look on your face. Precious. I bet you want to rip me to shreds right about now.” He said, still laughing while I glared at him and seriously considered ripping him to pieces. I could do it. Unlike that Zack fellow, he wasn’t as strong or as powerful, which probably meant he wasn’t as old. Zack Pearson was a powerful vampire, my brawl with him had concluded that. As weak as Caesar comparatively was, I was on his turf. I couldn’t attack him without severe repercussions. Instead of doing something stupid, I turned on my heels to walk away.

Their sheer force knocked the air from my lungs as leather straps snapped tight across my wrists, my ankles, and my waist, binding me completely. Beatrice stepped closer, her expression a mixture of fury and delight. “Pathetic!” She hissed, brushing my tangled hair from my face as I struggled helplessly. “You think you can steal my place? That a man like King Cassian will choose you over me? Keep dreaming!” Then she turned around and ordered a nurse sharply. “Make this transfusion memorable for her. Drain as much as you can. Only then will she learn to stay in her gutter.” The tears flowed down my cheeks as the nurse jabbed the needle into my skin, immediately following Beatrice’s command. M
