Metallic. He pressed his bleeding wrist to my mouth. "Drink," Rian ordered. "Alpha blood carries oxygen. It carries the cure." My lips were sealed. Rian cursed. He jammed his thumb into the corner of my mouth. He pried my jaw open. My jaw clicked. It was stiff. He pressed the cut against my teeth. The blood flowed into my mouth. It was warm. It tasted like iron and salt. It pooled in the back of my throat. I couldn't swallow. The reflex was gone.

In the middle of the night, Madelyn was jolted awake by intense, sharp pain and a strong taste of blood in her throat. She immediately covered her mouth and nose, lifting her blanket and immediately going into the bathroom without even putting on shoes. There, she vomited a mouthful of blood. Her clothes and the floor were stained with blood...

She swayed sitting up and immediately felt the impulse to vomit as her body cramped in waves. She removed the duct tape from her mouth with trembling fingers and inhaled deeply before heaving stomach acid over her lap. "Oh, why me?" Minnow sobbed, using the arm on her jumper to wipe away the sticky substance from her bruised nose and lips. The tangy and sweet taste lingered in her mouth, spitting the mixed saliva blood into the dark. Her eyes widened until they hurt as she desperately attempted to find any form of light in the dense blackness.

But the moment I got into our room, I felt nauseous and rushed to the bathroom to throw up. I vomited in the sink and the pain in my head returned. "God, what's happening to me?" I whimpered, clutching my head and squeezing my eyes. When I opened my eyes and looked down at the sink, I was shocked. I had vomited blood. "Blood..." I gasped.
