She let out a bright little giggle. "My sweet girl. Come, let me hold her," my grandfather said. I laughed and passed the bundled baby to him. Chandler leaned in closer, his face full of pride. "Of course, she's adorable. She's ours, after all." "You kid, always trying to take the credit…" Watching the two of them, I turned back to the tombstone and couldn't help smiling. The butterfly fluttered around us for a long while before it finally drifted toward the flowers on the other side.

“Do you smell it?” My frown deepened. “What nonsense are you blabbering about? Have you lost your mind?” He turned his head away from me, doing that weird sniffing thing. “The whole palace needs to be rid of moonveil blossom.” Moonveil blossom. There was nothing like that planted anywhere on my grounds. “I think you have officially lost it and you better pray to the goddess that I don’t lose my shit.” “Who put this flower here?” He motioned to the discard bouquet. “Whoever put this here is bathed in the moonveil blossom.”

“I don’t need it anymore.” He didn’t flinch. “Then I’ll give you something else instead. You paid. It would be wrong, against my nature, to let you leave with nothing of equal worth.” I exhaled a frustrated sigh and walked back to the counter, arms crossed. He placed two objects gently before me: a short, unlit candle and a wilting white flower. He gestured to the candle. “This is a demon-detection candle. It flares blue in the presence of evil.”

“These look wonderful.” “Thanks! I’m really excited to hear what you think,” I said, guiding them to the table. “Jessica was supposed to be here too, but she got a call she couldn’t miss.” “No problem,” Emma replied, lifting the bottle of Resilience Bloom and inhaling deeply. “This is amazing. It’s like… like a burst of grit and power captured in a scent.” Fiona nodded as she picked up Creative Spirit. “And this one is so vibrant and lively. It’s perfect for the exhibition.”

I gasped, staring at the massive boxes. “Not enough,” he muttered, tearing into the first one. I limped over, glancing inside at an array of bright pink candles in every size. Bending down, I plucked one from the packaging, turning it over in my hand. My eyes watered as I stared at the label. It was glittery and covered in an intricate design of roses in shades of peaches and pinks. “The Perfect Mate,” I whispered, reading what he’d named the candle. Plucking the gemstone studded lid from the candle, I inhaled, gasping at the beautiful fruity-floral scent inside, “Is this really what I smell like?”

The soft, flickering light of the candles cast a warm glow over the room, and the soothing scent made me feel instantly calmer. The bathroom was a haven of tranquility, dimly lit by the soft glow of candles placed strategically around the space. Their warm light danced off the polished marble tiles, casting flickering patterns on the walls. The air was infused with the calming scent of lavender and chamomile, a soothing mixture that instantly eased the tension in my chest. Steam rose from the bath, its surface shimmering like liquid silk.

Loudly. “These candles are eighty percent wax and twenty percent chemical fragrance. The only spirit you’re calling is Bath & Body Works.” Sky ignored him and crouched beside the candles, lifting her hands like some medium. “Who wants to join the circle?” she asked. Half the room practically trampled each other trying to volunteer. Tyler, the eternally doomed lunch-money thief, was shoved forward first.

Callum’s POV I started from scratch that same afternoon. I called the penthouse staff and told them what I needed, which was help without taking over. I spent three hours deciding what to use and what to leave out. Candles, because Nadia had once mentioned, casually, in the middle of a completely unrelated conversation, that she found candles more comfortable than overhead lighting when she was somewhere she wanted to relax. Flowers, but not the elaborate arrangement kind, just simple ones in colors she actually wore, the colors she gravitated toward in her collection, which I had paid close enough attention to that I knew them without having to look anything up.
