QUINN’S POV “Class we will be dividing the class into two and you will be having an impromptu debate as part of your activity. So, the subject will be related to our subject” our professor divided the class into two groups and he give us the subject. “Do you agree in legalizing divorce in our country?” upon hearing the subject, I lost interest. I mean I am not really interested in activities like this. I just want to study and excel with handwork and not through activities like this. It’s like digging yourself in to prove something.

Nothing to really fuss about. "Did my org mates conduct the meeting here yesterday?” I asked her while waiting for my coffee. "Yes. I did hear yesterday that they were talking about a tournament." Katie leaned on the counter. "Will the debate team participate in the upcoming regional debate competition this year? Are you one of the participants?"

Ninety minutes and ninety-seven questions later, our team was losing by two. There were three questions left, and we had to win all three to take the lead and win. If the other side won any of them, it was over. “Our last three questions will come from the subject matter of Human Anatomy.” The spokesperson for our debate announced what the last topic would cover. I breathed a partial sigh of relief. Not that I was too confident that we would win, the other team had been kicking our ass all day, but at least I had a general knowledge of the topic of interest.

He whispered to Sarah. “This is the part where public opinion becomes useful.” Sarah nodded slowly. “Yes.” But across the courtyard, another group of students was arguing. Max noticed. “…Or dangerous.” Sarah followed his gaze. Two students were clearly disagreeing about the policy. One of them raised their voice. “This whole thing is just politics.” Another student responded immediately. “Or maybe it’s about protecting people.” Max sighed. “See?” He gestured toward the argument. “Campus debate.” Caspian watched the exchange.

You lost last time, remember?” Kai leaned closer, grinning. “Only because you were on the other team. How about we team up sometime? I think we’d make a dangerous pair.” I gripped my pen so hard it nearly snapped. Our debate moderator cleared his throat. “Positions, please. Wilder and Johnson on opposing sides as usual.” Of course we were. The teachers loved pitting us against each other. They thought it was cute sibling rivalry. They had no idea.

"Let's practice," she said. "The final round topic hasn't been announced, but past years have focused on ethics, honesty and integrity in competition. We should prepare for something along those lines." Sebastian stood up, walked to the podium and turned to face her. "Then let's debate. Right now. No preparation. Topic: Is winning worth losing yourself?"

“Could’ve fooled me.” He runs a hand through his hair and sighs, before regarding me with a serious expression. “Debate class wasn’t created for fun. It’s a class that helps students form opinions and views about certain choices and decisions concerning our world. If anyone of them aspires to be a part of the council these are the topics that are going to be discussed.” “Well, I don’t like it!” “It doesn’t matter whether or not you like it, because these are the questions I choose to bring up in my class Miss Ray.”

ANDREW'S POV: I thought about this for a moment. Amelia and I argued about things regularly. We argued about butter quantities in baking, we argued about the correct way to load the dishwasher and a lot more which were all arguments in which both of us believed we were correct. A formal debate was different. In a formal debate you were assigned your position by the draw of a lot and not by what you actually believed. Which meant one of us was going to have to argue for something we did not believe.
