The door opened, and my breath caught in my throat.
It was Helen.
Helen—my best friend.
I stared in disbelief as she smiled warmly and let him inside. My legs felt like they might give out, but I forced myself to move closer. I crept toward the window, careful to stay out of sight.
Inside, they were standing close, too close. Helen’s hands brushed against his chest, and then he pulled her into his arms. Their lips met in a kiss so passionate it made my stomach turn.
