He paused, letting his words sink in, then added even quieter, "All you have to do is say the word, Atlas. And I’ll back off, for good."
The room felt too still, the air thick with all the things we weren’t saying. I stared at him, the boy who’d once been my enemy, now standing before me asking me to choose, giving me the power to end this before it tore us both apart.
I opened my mouth, but nothing came out. The truth was, I didn’t know what word I wanted to say.
But I knew I definitely didn’t want him to back off.
