Top of my list

Anger is my partner in crime. I always have this shoot-first-ask-questions-later attitude. Even though I appear calm on the outside, I'm a fucking mess on the inside. The voices in my head are getting louder and louder.

I view things negatively and anger is the only way to solve issues that become too much for my brain to handle. Never gotten into trouble before because I got Killian cleaning my shit up. Though I didn't ask him. Jerk of a brother says I'm spoiling his image.

Currently, I don't care. I don't fucking care. I'm going to ruin this wedding if they think they have a hold on me. Jeanne is forced to marry this Vito bastard. Every night before the wedding, I stand outside her door and hear her sobs. Dad's worrying while hiding his pain behind a straight face. I can't keep this up. No, my insides feel like they are tied up in a ball and entangled.

"Hey, you can't go—"

Too late. I punch him in the guts. Another comes at me. Swinging my bat, I knock him in the face and he flops down on the pavement like a dead fish. I smash my way in, hitting their kneecaps and stomachs but not hard enough to kill them. I can't afford to take lives and have that fucking Vito asking for compensation. Not my priority.

I kick open the door to the wedding hall. Eyes scan me as I march up the aisle, my lips curling into a smirk.

A woman stands not far from me, her white wedding dress something out of a fairytale. My sister. There she is, standing beside the very man who demanded the marriage alliance. She's controlling herself from crying, slapping on a fake smile.

I shifted my gaze to my sister's soon-to-be husband. Well, not so soon. He looks at me, those deep dark eyes assessing me. He looks calm and composed as if he was expecting my arrival. Angular jaws, high nose, and sharp cheekbones. Fuck, he's attractive. But underneath that striking face is a monster I can't afford to let my sister marry.

How did I know he is a monster?

It's because his eyes are lifeless. Dead. Empty. There's no light in there. It's like he's not even here. And he's definitely not interested in this wedding.

"Cass?" Jeanne regards me with wide eyes. I shoot her a wink.

The very man whose eyes I'm glaring at curls his lips into a dangerous yet charming smirk. Cold. Calculative. Ruthless.

I know Jeanne would suffer. I can't let her, not after what I promised Mom.

So I lash out. I grab the pair of rings from the priest right in front of fucking Vito. Then I let them drop to the ground. Our eyes connect and I grin, pulling out the gun hidden in my jacket. Jeanne gasps. The hall breaks out in chatter and murmurs.

The man standing behind Vito the motherfucker panics and pulls his own gun. He points at me, protecting his boss, but I don't give a damn. Vito isn't my target. The ring is.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

Four shots. Four perfect holes in the rings. Two for each. The metal dents to the point it looks like scrap.

"Let's go," I take her hand and pull her away from the monster.

"I can't, Cass," she pleads with those eyes that are so similar to Mom's when she was on her deathbed. It has a hold over me. I would do anything if she gives me that look. But not this time.

"I can't leave. This is our fault. Please go. I'm okay," she says.

No, she's not okay. I'm not either. I never will be if my precious sister gets her life ruined by some jerk.

"This has nothing to do with you. It's Fabio's, not yours," I snap.

Jeanne has the tendency to put the blame on herself. It happened back in school when a young girl got bullied near her. Then the girl committed suicide and Jeanne blamed herself for it. Killian wanted to snap the necks of the bullies but Dad interfered, trying to make Jeanne strong.

I don't want to admit it, but I do have that tendency too.

Jeanne isn't like us. She's a Mafia princess but has a heart of gold. Sometimes I think she's too innocent for this world, our fucked up world.

Dad's eyes widen in horror. He turns to me, snapping.

"What did you do?! Get back here, now!" Dad looks at the motherfucker, trembling.

Was Vito that scary? I don't give a fuck when it comes to protecting my loved ones.

"This marriage," I say, locking eyes with Vito, "is over. Don't even think about marrying her."

"Who are you? Her lover?" Vito doesn't flinch.

In fact, he looks calm and I get this sinking feeling like I have walked myself into some kind of trap.

"Yes and no. Does it matter?" I sneer.

The motherfucker tips his head back and laughs, throwing me into a surprise. His eyes seem to have more light in them now.

"It does," he smiles, but it doesn't meet his eyes. Fake. Cruel. Ruthless. His eyes land on the bat in my left hand.

Am I imagining things if I think he's impressed?

"Congratulations. You're on the top of my list," Vito says, or more like warns.

"Thank you. Just keep your fucking disgusting perverted hands off her," I flash my middle finger at him and pull Jeanne down the aisle to the door, without looking back.

I'm tempted to carry her instead because she nearly tumbles over in that ugly white dress. But I can't carry her because that would mean going out of this fucking place without a weapon.

"You answer for this, Cesare," behind us, Vito warns my dad. I could feel Dad glaring at my back like he couldn't wait to twist my neck.

"I'll give you a satisfactory answer," Dad placates.

I ruined the wedding and now Alessio fucking Vito probably has me on his death list.

  • His Enemy's Vow    62. The Rescue

~Alessio~An armoured jeep crashes through the iron gates, knocking down the guards. The sounds of bones getting crushed under the wheels are music to my ears."Get in!" Dimitri yells. I shove Jeanne into the backseat. I'm about to climb in when I have second thoughts.Fabio is still here. I'm not done with him yet. It's now or never and I want to ruin whatever he has here. Teach him a lesson for hurting Cassius."What are you doing?" Theo looks at me with shock when he sees me shut the door and step back."It's dangerous! We need to leave!""I'm not leaving. You go first. Take her to safety.""Sir!" Dimitri cries out."Fabio is here. I'll meet up with you."Dimitri nods, though there's uncertainty in his eyes. He hesitates, breathing heavily."Go! Now!" I bark. "That's an order."With reluctance, Dimitri reverses the jeep and they head off. Jeanne looks back at me through her tear-stricken eyes.A bullet whizzes past me. I dodge, quickly moving behind a metal container."Alessio Vito

  • His Enemy's Vow    61. Need to get him

~Alessio~"Save your questions for later. Let's get out of here first," I motioned for her to follow me.Dimitri gave me a rough layout of the place. But they noticed her missing and alerted Fabio. Footsteps and the sound of heavy weapons echo across the shipping yard. Now his men are searching for us. And I took a fucking bullet in my side, covering for Jeanne. I feel the blood leaving my body faster than my strength. How deep is it? I can't die or faint before getting her out. I need to have the last laugh, even in the face of death.I gesture to Jeanne. She inches forward, crouching behind the crates and moving ahead. If Giulio were here, he would comment and call it a duck walk.Bullets ricochet off the beams and pipes above. It stops and hissing sounds burst from those pipes. I lift a hand. Jeanne stops."They aren't here. Stop shooting at everything!" A stern voice bellows. I strain my ears, willing myself to pick

  • His Enemy's Vow    60. Lying will cost you more

~Alessio~I have to be careful not to start a war. I choose peace over blood, though I don't mind flooding the streets with blood and organs. It gives me delight and gets me high, shooting my adrenaline right up. But I'm not here to upset the peace. I could run over to the Irish mob and the Bratva but I won't. That would be foolish.I need to plan. Devise. Think. Then I'll take down and exterminate any threats, potential or not. Success and results matter. Everything else doesn't.I take the helicopter all the way to Paris. Occupying the landing pad meant for medics, I jump off the chopper and head to the university. People, staff and students shuffle in the hallways, filing out of classrooms. It's a sea of people. Where the hell is Jeanne? I break into a run, looking for her classroom and the principal's office. If I have to point a gun at the principal, I wouldn't hesitate. If Jeanne's in danger, Cassius will be too. What's the

~Cassius~I'll have no peace until that motherfucking dickhead is dead.He could have taken Jeanne when he forced me to sign over the shares. It doesn't match with his actions."Where are you going? We need to find Jeanne. I should—" Pamela looks on the verge of fainting."Pamela, get help from Killian or dad. Try to be as discreet as possible," I cut her off, holding her hand. I want to stay and comfort her but I don't have time."Okay. Okay," Pamela turns and scrolls through her phone. On the way to the airport, Killian shows up, blocking my way with his motorbike."What the hell? I don't have time to lose," slapping the steering wheel, I yell at him.Killian rolls his eyes. "Same here. You're not the only one who wants his sister back. Let's take the jet.""Jet?""Follow me," he gestures with his chin. I follow him to one side of the airport where there are fewer people. He points to a jet and wa

  • His Enemy's Vow    58. Target Jeanne again

~Cassius~It should have been easy, but it's not. Here I am, drinking more alcohol than usual. I think I'm only making my alcohol tolerance go up.My fingers are flying across the laptop. It's been days since I last saw Alessio and cried like a fool. Why the fuck am I so vulnerable and weak when I'm in front of him? I tell myself over and over again to forget. I let Pamela and dad arrange dates for me, male and female, but none catches my eye.My phone rings. Pamela again. She arranged this date with some guy and is nagging me nonstop.I sigh, hitting the green button. "Yes?""Where are you? Go on your date.""I'm fine. The heartache is over," I lie."I don't believe that. Heartaches don't heal that fast. Come on. Don't stay cooped up at home. It's unhealthy," Pamela is all about health and lifestyle balance. I can never argue with her so I agree.A few minutes later, I'm standing in front of a fancy restaurant.

  • His Enemy's Vow    57. Barging without knocking

~Alessio~My brothers are clearly dealing with problems in their lives but they don't want me to interfere. As the eldest brother and their boss, I should eliminate any problem or confusion. And Cassius is a problem. One I can't erase from my system. So what the fuck am I supposed to do with him?Things aren't going as smoothly as I'd hoped.Giuseppe seems on edge, or like he's running from something. It's the same feeling I got when he was at the safehouse. What made him run and hide all the way there? I'm starting to worry that someone is out to take his life.Marcello is surprisingly fast and efficient, just the way I like people to work. He's one of my specialist hackers. I had to scout and bribe him with favorable terms to make him work for me."We've got eyes on Fabio. Location sending over to you now," Marcello says."Good work. The other half will be transferred to your account," I hang up."It might be

~Cassius~Motherfucking Vito is standing in front of me after he choked the life out of me and made my cock hard. Well, nearly. Apparently, he doesn't want me dead. ~Alessio~Not that I mind, but I can't stand the weeping and drama. It gives me a headache. He walks forward and pulls Giulio in th

  • His Enemy's Vow    Intrigued

~Alessio~I watch as he takes my bride, places her on his bike, and takes off like a shooting star. Never has anyone disregarded me like this, pulling a fucking gun right in front of my eyes. That pure arrogance of his got under my nerves, and I resist the urge to end his life. Who is he? More imp

  • His Enemy's Vow    Forced marriage

~Cassius~To say my life is bad is an understatement. Dad paces the room back and forth, his steps making my sister uneasy. Jeanne sits on the couch, burying her face in her hands."What's going to happen?" she asks, eyes red and watery as she looks at me. Her chocolate hair is mussed up, like she
