Blood darkens his fur. He doesn’t make a sound. The cut doesn’t slow him. I duck under a snapping jaw and roll, coming up on one knee with my second blade already up. I strike again. Deeper. Cleaner. This is familiar. The burn in my arms. The narrowing of my vision. The way the rest of the world drops out when my body remembers what it’s for.

We just passed the 12 weeks mark. “Rissa and Gabe will help you practice and get used to it.” I just nodded and pulled the knife from its sheath. It was beautiful in its own deadly way. I didn’t know shit about knives, but I was sure you can kill pretty easily with a blade like this. “The blade is a high density silver alloy, so don’t cut yourself,” Gabriel chimed in. “I won’t.” I gave him an offended look as I put the blade back and closed the box on it.

Then I grabbed my sheath for my waist and inserted my seven inch parkerized blade. “Holy Moon Goddess! You look like you are going to war.” Rory squealed. I laughed at her energy. I look over at Aiden who is looking at me with some emotion I cannot name. The last thing I grab is my Kukri Machete. It’s eight inches long and completely black. There is only a thin silver lining along the edge. It’s great for combat, but I am going to slice through some of the targets. “Okay, I’m ready.”

Vincenzo pulled out a white hand towel and cleaned up the blood on the knife before dropping it and picking up another one. My eyes widened a little as I saw the blade in his hands. Spyderco Matriarch. Vincenzo rarely used this blade on anyone because in his words 'he wouldn't waste his favorite blade on mere situations.' The blade was only ever seen when the boss was enraged. And I knew the moment was now. I could see that he was barely controlling his rage.

He was always so pleased by her speed and ruthlessness in dispatching his elder children, that he doted on her during class. She was unrivaled in hand-to-hand, quicker and more sure-footed than her siblings. She was deadly with small blades as well, and kept one tucked in her boot at all times, just in case any of Killian's cronies took the young Lord at his word and tried to have her quietly dispatched. Not that she ever represented a true threat to either Killian or Reena, she was just as much her mother's daughter as her father's, and it was likely she would be a prey shifter rather than a predator.

I remove it from its sheath to see silver runes near the hilt, reading prosperity and protection in elvish. “These are elven blades made with wind and fire elements in the blades and wood. These would fit well with Anna’s fighting style,” I say to Aias as he comes up next to me. “Would you like to get them for her?” Aias asks lifting the bo staff and inspecting the middle. I look over at him and see the seam in the middle of the staff. “Oh it can be separated,” I say placing the short sword back and walking to Aias and the bo staff.

Dust and moonlight swirled. Grace took a step forward. “Give Adrian to me. Let’s walk away from this.” “No,” Echo said calmly, removing a slim blade from her coat. “You don’t walk away from evolution, Grace. You embrace it. Or you become extinct.” A Blade and a Bomb Grace knew the fight was coming. She hadn’t brought a gun. Just the chip Echo wanted, secured in a small biometric vault hidden inside her jacket. Echo lunged without warning. Their bodies clashed like magnets, mirror against mirror. Fists, elbows, knees. Not a single move was unfamiliar. Grace had trained her, after all. Every blow Echo threw, Grace anticipated, but Echo anticipated back.
