Today, I—Anika Rhodes—am exiled. Every eye in the room is fixed on me. Usually, I’d shrink under such scrutiny, but not today. Today, I don’t care. Because exile isn’t a punishment. It’s freedom. It’s a life above ground, away from the dread of the Underworld. Away from the chains, the rituals, the watching shadows. It’s a chance, however slim, to be something more than a curse.

"A tragic turn of events." After a few more celebratory howls, Oliver cut the link, and I turned back to Madeline. "And now Adrian has been put to flight as well," I told her, satisfied when a brilliant smile bloomed across her face. "Exiled with no path back to the Academy." "Thank you," she exhaled, falling back into the clover with a sense of peace. "That is the finest song I’ve heard since my return."

Once I gain that smell every pack, no matter where I try to seek refuge will want to murder me. Rogues are never to be trusted, they are always hunted. They are rogues because they are violent, appalling criminals. My new life.

Vivian said, stepping forward to the podium. Gesturing toward me, her voice echoed through the room. “This sort of offense is punishable by death or, at most, if we are to show mercy.” she smirked at me as she dropped the last word.“exile from the werewolf continent.” Exile? That was the same as condemning me to death. Being exiled would mean I wouldn’t be accepted in any other pack. If I went to rogue territory? It was a one-way ticket to my death. Was this it? Time for my story to end?

My brothers looked at each other before looking at me, I gave them a shrug before looking out the window. My eyes glided up and down the building that stood in front of me, nothing changes about it. It still had that sick yellow paint and the white on the pillars were beginning to wash off, the painting of a phoenix on the the left side of the building was beginning to fade away a reminder that the one who painted it no longer existed.

A bitter laugh escaped my lips as I asked, “From you? The only thing I want from either of you is to see you burn.” Cian’s face darkened. “Fucking enough! You’ve been tried and found guilty by the pack council. After the punishment by the pack, the sentence is exile.” My breath hitched. Exile? I had a shiver of fear run down my spine. Being cast out, without a pack, without the moon goddess's protection… it was a plight worse than death. It meant to be a rogue the rest of my life. “Well, I see,” I said, my voice now on the verge of breaking.

“What… what will they do to me?” He shook his head. “I’ll leave that to the council. But I’ll tell you this—you’ll live. Just… not here. Not with the pack.” My stomach dropped as I remembered my punishment again. “Exile is sounds like torture, Griffin.” “Yes it is.” he said simply. “You’ll leave. No rank. No protection. No favors. Just… your life.” I closed my eyes again. “I… I understand.” “You understand mercy is worse than destruction?” he asked.

No pack will have him, leaving him banished to a life of solitude where his wolf will go crazy, not having the hope of a mate to help sooth it’s damaged soul. And that is if he were to live that long. There are rogue groups that make a sport of hunting the exiles and killing them in whatever creative way they can come up with. The thought makes me feel sick again as this time I heave hard enough to eject my stomach's contents onto the dusty earth. My fathers rubs circles on my back.

“Let’s say you get exiled for something incredibly bad, like murder…” “Yeah?” Celeste’s brows shoot up. “Well, let’s say they end up marking someone. Is that a bad thing?” Ariah frowns. “No, because that’s unheard of. Once you’re exiled, you lose your power. Without power, you can’t access the spiritual realm. You can’t mark anyone, period.”
