The words pricked at me like a tiny, relentless needle, barely there, yet sharp enough to lodge deep in my chest.
I had no strength to pull it out, no way to ease the ache, and it stayed with me, subtle but constant, gnawing quietly.
Vivian pressed her hand to her side, inching closer with cautious, deliberate steps.
"Aaron... what's wrong? You never lose your temper with me," she murmured, her voice soft but insistent.
I let out a low, hollow whisper. "Claire... she's gone."
The words drained me completely. My body slumped into the sofa as if it had no memory of strength.
