The figure didn’t speak. It moved closer, each step slow, deliberate, like a predator savoring the fear that grew with its approach.
Azar’s breathing quickened. He pressed himself against the back wall of his cell, fingers trembling. “If you’ve come for gold, I—I’ll pay you! I still have accounts! Hidden vaults! You’ll have it all!”
Still, the figure gave no reply.
It stopped directly before his cell. For a moment, the torchlight flickered just enough to reveal a gloved hand sliding along the bars. Then, impossibly, the lock clicked open without a key.
