She sipped it down in a few gulps. Her throat had been incredibly dry, and the water helped to ease it. Something about that idea—of being in control—fueled her desire. She handed Tommy the tube and climbed over him, straddling his thighs and pointing her bottom right at him. She looked over her shoulder and right into his eyes. "This one is water-based," she said, "so you'll probably need to add some more if it starts to dry out."

She hoped that the engulfing fatigue she felt wouldn’t win and make her drift off in the incredibly comfortable armchair. “Do you want something to drink?” he asked as he poured what looked like whiskey into a glass. “No thank you,” Emma said. She was already tired and full of adrenaline. Emma didn’t need to add alcohol to the mix. She needed the few functioning parts of her brain that were left. “Water?” he asked. Emma hesitated. She really wanted some water. Spending an evening crying and shouting really did a number on the throat. But she wondered if she could trust that he wouldn’t mix anything in the water.

It was intense and unbearable. "I must have had a rough night," she mumbled to herself. Emma swung her legs over the side of the bed and stood up, swaying slightly as she regained her balance. She knew she needed some water to soothe her parched throat, so she made her way downstairs and then to the kitchen, hoping a glass of cold water would help alleviate her headache. As Emma reached the kitchen, the sunlight streaming through the windows momentarily blinded her. She squinted and made her way towards the sink, grabbing a glass and turning on the faucet. As the water trickled into the glass, she felt a sudden wave of dizziness wash over her.

With a cold snort, she walked outside and turned her head to give orders: "Remember to scrub the pots clean, and don't leave any water on the floor! Clean up all the scraps on the stove too!" Emma stood in the small, cramped kitchen, looking at the retreating figure. Suddenly, a smile bloomed on her face. In just half an hour, she finished washing all the pots and started wiping them while hunching her back. At that moment, Amie stuck her head through the window and said, "How can you clean properly like that? You have to kneel and scrub the floor! You don't know anything! And yes, when mopping, make sure the water is full! Can you hear me?"

Emma replied gaily, “I grew up on a farm, silly.” James made an indecipherable gesture and Emma assumed he was a farm hand who would be returning the foal to its mother. James was dressed in old clothes as he expected to be going through the shrubbery and trees in search of the animal. As the door to the small shed shut, Emma removed the rest of her clothing and started to pump water into the vat. She hung her undergarments on a peg in the wall, just to be sure they don’t get dirty as well. She then started to pump it briskly, filling it with fresh water.

Water droplets drip onto my shirt and soak into the material. I pat my hair dry then shake it out, making a funny noise with my mouth. I've been spending all morning pumping myself up for the talk I promised myself I'd have with Emma. My shower ran long as I tried to figure out what I might say, and I came up with moot.

He starts the water and drops a little fluffy ball thing in. “Emma gave me these for you. Apparently it makes the water smell nice”, he says shrugging his shoulders. Normally men make me so uneasy but he makes me so relaxed and happy.

Emma nodded in silent agreement as she held his hand. With a sigh, she reached for the bag of clothes Lucas had brought, her fingers trembling slightly as she unzipped it. Stepping into the bathroom, she closed the door behind her. The warm water flowing over her skin was a welcome distraction from the chaos swirling inside her mind. She lingered under the spray longer than necessary. After toweling off and applying her cream, Emma dressed in the clothes Lucas had provided. She slipped into the pair of flats he had brought.
