She was wincing silently while holding her stung cheek with her other hand. “Mommy save me.” She silently whispered to no one as more tears began falling from her red eyes.

You’ll throw me away the way you threw away Emma?” The crack of a slap cut through the air. Sophie staggered backward, a red mark blooming on her cheek. For a long moment, the only sounds were the ticking of the clock and their ragged breaths, thick with restrained rage. Harry stared at his hand, disbelief flickering in his eyes. “Sophie, I—”
